In the caption, she said she missed Bali and the "elephant sanctuary." But this was no elephant sanctuary. The golden rule for any reputable elephant sanctuary is to never under any circumstances allow staff, volunteers, or tourists to ride or sit atop the elephants. This is the fundamental difference between a sanctuary and a captive elephant park that profits off of the exploitation and torture of animals. Kardashian-West should have done her homework before visiting this elephant park and should have never promoted and normalized this abusive industry with a FOMO-inducing Instagram post. By making that post, she told her 138 million followers that exploitative parks that allow elephant rides are okay, and are worth your time and money.
