Dear friends,
So far, at least 85,000 children have starved to death in Yemen.Experts warn that about 14 million people — half of Yemen's population — are currently at risk of famine, largely because of Saudi Arabia's border blockades which have also stopped civilians from accessing fuel and aid.
The US has the power to end these blockades by stopping its sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.
The New York Times recently reported:
"The Yemen war is at the center of a skirmish in Washington between Congress and the Trump administration, which declared a national emergency to get around Congress’s objections to selling billions of dollars of arms to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The coalition has repeatedly used American-supplied precision-guided bombs to strike Yemeni civilians."
The U.S. Senate was recently successful in moving a resolution through committee which will bring about a vote that could force President Trump to withdraw U.S. support for Saudi Arabia in Yemen. This would be a significant move that would force the Saudi leadership to the negotiating table in order to seek a humanitarian ceasefire. This would allow access to Yemen for goods and personnel — crucial to averting the worsening famine.
Please join me in signing this petition to call on the Senate to push for an immediate vote on this resolution and demand all members show their support!
Thank you for caring,
P.S. This is an entirely preventable humanitarian disaster and the U.S. could help end it if they wanted. By signing this petition, you can help put pressure on the Senate to demand a vote on a resolution before millions of people die.
