Dear friends,
U.S. Senators Tina Smith of Minnesota, Angus King of Maine, and Jeff Merkley of Oregon just introduced an important piece of legislation called The American Energy Efficiency Act. In short, the bill would enact a national energy efficiency resource standard (EERS), forcing everyone to actually conserve energy. If implemented, the effect would be huge!
About half of the United States have state-level laws like this that help curb energy usage, but implementing a nationwide law would help even more! A national EERS would get gas and electricity companies to cut down on waste as well as lower consumer bills and lower the amount of fossil-fuels used. This law would cut down national emissions by a third — that is an incredible amount of energy saving going on.
Not only would this bill help protect our environment, but it would also benefit consumers by saving them money. In a continuing climate of wealth inequality, regular Americans could use any kind of financial savings offered to them. There will likely be pushback from large corporations who stand to lose money and that's why we, the populace, need to speak up and show our politicians we support this act.
Ever since Trump took office, we've been heading the wrong way in terms of protecting our environment. Bills like this are a huge step in the right direction and we owe it to each other and our posterity to support this kind of positive legislation.
Thank you,

P.S. This one piece of legislation could cut down on U.S. carbon emissions by a third. Let's encourage leaders to pass it right now!
