More than 30 people were killed in mass shootings in just eight days this summer. It's time to get assault-style weapons off American streets.

Dear friends,
U.S. President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans have given us a laundry list of reasons why more than 30 people died in 2 horrific mass shootings last week. They've blamed social media, mental health and video games. But as per usual, they left out the most important culprit: access to military-grade assault-style weapons.
Assault-style rifles have been the weapon of choice in nearly every mass shooting you can remember. The movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The dance club in Orlando, Florida. The Concert in Las Vegas. The church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The classrooms in Parkland, Florida. And, as of this week, a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and a neighborhood in Dayton, Ohio.
There's a reason these are the weapons of choice for mass shooters. They are designed to kill efficiently. Magazines are large and shooters can get rounds off quickly. We won't stop mass shootings until we stop the proliferation of these weapons.
Yet, Trump had the gall to say there is "no political appetite" for banning assault rifles. Let's show him just how wrong he is.
Thank you,

P.S. We can't allow politicians bought by the National Rifle Association (NRA) lobby to continue prioritizing gun manufacturers over the safety of our communities. Let's show them the public demands a nationwide ban on assault-style weapons.
