Trump is sneakily bringing back housing discrimination

Trump has one consistent belief: He doesn't want it to be easy for people of color to get a place to live. Now, his housing department is making it law.

Dear friends,
The Trump Administration just quietly proposed new housing rules in the United States that could make racial discrimination legal again. We need to shine a light on this awful plan and stop these rules from going into effect.
Communities all over the United States are living with the legacy of housing discrimination to this day. For decades, black families were barred from moving into certain neighborhoods, sometimes through specific racist bans and sometimes by denying loans for properties in predominantly black neighborhoods. That tactic is colloquially called "redlining," and it's denied generations of black Americans a fair shot at the American dream.
The Fair Housing Act is supposed to end this legacy. It explicitly prohibits racial discrimination in housing, and a few years ago, the Supreme Court made it clear this covers not just overtly racist rules, but also ones that obviously have a racially biased impact. In short, it's illegal for people to circumvent laws designed to stop racism by being sneaky about it.
But the Trump Administration has found a loophole. They want to exempt algorithms from this rule. In effect, it means if companies can say they're using a computer model to determine who can get a home loan, the government no longer cares if it screws over people of color.
There is a whole host of evidence that shows computers are just as racist as people. No part of the housing process should be allowed to discriminate. Not humans, not even calculators. Period.
Thank you,
