Sign Now Dear friends, Refugee and migrant women often face particularly difficult obstacles. Many are single parent or the only parents on the move with children, so they hold major responsibilities in providing for their families. However, women seeking refuge are at a greater risk of violence, sexual exploitation and even death. Shockingly, a report found that, refugee women are being raped in detention centres and forced into prostitution. Twenty-six percent of women migrating through East Africa reported experiencing sexual assault or harassment. This is an outrage. And we must do something about this now. Access to services such as gender-based violence shelters, where women can receive specialised assistance, is desperately needed.
