Dear friends,
The Squatty Potty. A camera-doorbell product called Ring. The Safe Grabs silicone mat for handling hot items. All of these inventions have been brought to us by a combination of excited entrepreneurs and the phenomenally successful TV show "Shark Tank."
Unfortunately, though, like many other innovations featured, these products contain plastic products that will never biodegrade, just break down into smaller and smaller pieces that lodge themselves in our tap water, food, and ecoystems. Tell "Shark Tank" to do the world a favor and only showcase eco-friendly products!
Even before the first episode of Shark Tank debuted in 2009, conservationist and eco-conscious consumers were worried about the amount of plastic being dumped in our seas, rivers, and landfills. Single-use plastic items like bottles and wrappers now threaten ecosystems around the world. This is especially true for our oceans, where plastic will outnumber fish by 2050.
Care2 member Amil J loves watching "Shark Tank" because he enjoys celebrating others' success, hard work, and dedication. Contestants on the show could one day go on to become millionaires, and their products may very well become staples in our homes. But he's troubled by the fact that more inventors haven't found a way to create sustainable, plastic-free goods.
This type of carelessness shouldn't be rewarded. Our earth is suffering, and we all have to take action to make sure that as we bring more and more things onto the planet, we're not just contributing to more and more plastic pollution.
Thank you for all that you do,
P.S. "Shark Tank" judges should think about the message they want to send to future entrepreneurs and focus on eco-friendly, plastic-free and sustainable products. Sign the petition to promote a plastic-free world!
