They're punishing kids with low reading scores by taking away their lunch.

Got Low Test Scores? They Might Take Away Your Food. Speak Out Against This Cruel School Proposal!

Dear friends,
Hunger and learning don't go well together. It's not hard to understand, yet somehow Arkansas State Senator Alan Clark missed that lesson.
Perhaps Clark himself never had to struggle through class while his stomach was empty and growling, because it's clear he has no compassion for those who have. Clark recently introduced a draconian bill that threatens to cut funding for school meals if that school's reading scores are too low.
Taking food away from children is not the way to increase their academic performance. In fact, studies show that one of the best ways to provide all students with a good education is to ensure that every child is able to come to school healthy, well fed, and ready to learn.
Why are we punishing the very kids who need more resources and help? We should be working to ensure every child has access to nutritional meals and given the best shot at success. No child should become faint with hunger or forced to forego meals all just to teach them some sort of perverse, merciless lesson.
We cannot allow State Senator Clark to take food away from the same school children who need it most. Please, sign the petition today and join the call to keep this cruel bill from becoming law.
Thank you for all that you do,

Ellen B.

P.S. We should be feeding hungry, struggling kids — not taking away their lunch and hoping deprivation somehow improves their grades. Sign the petition today to stop this dangerous legislation!
