The Giant Machines Rolled in, and the Koala Massacre Began. Demand an End to Logging in Koala Habitat.

Dear friends,
The land is now almost entirely barren. Where there once stood miles upon miles of eucalyptus trees, only a few sparse patches remain. This used to be a rich home for the adorable but endangered koalas. Now, with so few trees, the koalas are forced to huddle together and struggle to find enough food to survive. After a while, the few trees left have no more leaves for them to eat.
This was the horrific scene that Helen Oakley witnessed in her own community of Portland, Australia. Koalas lay dead — mothers with their babies alike — all over the landscape. Six and a half miles of land had become a graveyard.
Oakley filmed the terrible sight to show the world what is happening. In the video she took, starved koalas lay hanging from trees, or baking in the ground under the hot sun. Others met a different, more gruesome fate: unable to run quickly enough as logging machinery came through, they were caught and ground up, then their remains were spat back out upon the earth.
This is all happening because of humans logging koala habitat so that we can build more houses, more shopping plazas, more things for us. We are expanding into their territory and killing them off, family by family. Australian authorities must stop this now!
Koalas were already heading towards extinction even before the fires ravaged much of Australia and the trees they need to survive. Officials say upwards of 3,000 koalas have died in the fires alone. Now, more koalas are being murdered in human development projects. The species cannot endure any more such tragedies.
We must save the species from dwindling even more. The government of Victoria, Australia must prohibit all logging in koala habitat immediately!
Thank you for all that you do,
P.S. Koalas were massacred in a new spate of logging. Dead and dying animals lay everywhere. Demand that the Australian government step up to save the koalas!
