Between 2017 and 2019, we had three disputes in the gastro. They concerned a pizzeria, a café and a bistro. In two we succeeded within a few
weeks, the third was prematurely terminated by a worker. This is our attempt to compare and evaluate them. The text is part of the
publication “How We Handled Problems at Work. Union Disputes Direct Action 2015-2019 ”, in which we map our disputes from recent years. We
will be presenting this booklet on Saturday, February 29th, in the Bystro Community Center . ---- CAUSE OF DISPUTES ---- We have informed
about the causes of individual disputes in separate articles on our website, so we will briefly summarize them. ---- Martin worked in Lozano
Pube as a pizzeria and the company refused to pay him 201 € for his vacation. ---- Mia served at Space Mania (a playful café for children
and adults) and the owner owed her € 222.44 for hours worked.
Jakub worked as an assistant chef in a bistro and his boss did not pay him a salary and compensation of € 584.61.

FIRST STEPS WORKING

Both Martin and Jakub first tried to solve the problem individually. Martin encountered a reaction we could call a tactic of repeated
promises . When he asked for the money he was still listening to getting it, but nothing happened. Although this tactic often causes a
person to lose interest in solving a problem, Martin did not give up (even after a response from the Labor Inspectorate that he would not
deal with the matter and should solve it through the courts) and contacted us.

Jakub also communicated with the boss all the time and responded to her intention to release him by trying to agree on better conditions.
Her response was much rougher than in Martin's case. We would simply call it revenge (even if you call it an egowould also not be far from
the truth). She threatened to give him fewer changes, and she did. It reached the point where she refused to pay him any money owed.

In Mia's case, the situation was more complicated. When she arrived after her last paycheck, the boss gave her only a portion of the money
(€ 70) in 20 working days and claimed that it was so much for 40 hours worked, refusing to show her an attendance card. Mia was given a
"choice": she would either sign a copy of the pay slip, or her boss wouldn't even give the 70 €. So Mia signed and immediately contacted her
friend Maji, whom she confided with everything. They tried to contact the boss by phone, SMS, and later by e-mail, but without a response.
Chief 's beetle tactichowever, even in this case it did not lead to the resignation of the worker. On the contrary, Mia responded admirably.
Together with Maya and occasionally other sympathetic people, they began protesting several times a week with banners outside the café. The
boss pulled the victim's tactics out of the arsenal : every time she called the cops, telling them that Mia had stolen from them, that the
children in the café were afraid, or that the protests violated public order. After a few weeks of no-action events, Mia and Maja contacted
us for help.

INSTALLATION OF THE UNION DIRECT ACTION
AND DETERMINATION OF REQUIREMENTS

We have taken the same first step in these disputes as before. We have reviewed all available documents and, where necessary, recalculated
how much the boss actually owes. This procedure aims to determine the exact amount to be included in the requirements at a later stage.

Martin's case was relatively clear. The amount owed was based on the information provided by the company accountant.

Mia was supposed to mark less hours on her boss's instruction than she actually worked, but fortunately she kept her own records. She also
took a picture of a real attendance book, thanks to which we finally calculated the exact amount owed.

The most complicated was the calculation in Jakub's case, because the boss paid out part of the paycheck in black, the pay slips were one
big mess, the contract of employment did not contain mandatory particulars such as working time, and the boss also stopped giving him
changes. In the end, however, we managed to write an exact request.

It should be added that Martin and Jakub also marked and photographed the hours worked. They also kept pay slips and had important SMS or
other messages. Such documentation will greatly facilitate the preparation of the dispute, since we can more easily formulate requirements
and exert more effective pressure, but we do not claim that everything is lost if it is missing. We just want to emphasize how important it
is to keep a record of everything that happens in the workplace (and this may not only be related to money but also to working conditions,
health and safety at work, etc.).

SUBMISSION OF THE DATA SHEET

Handing over the letter is an action that we show the company that workers have a problem that needs to be resolved and that they are behind
our union. There is always a deadline in the letter when the problem should be resolved. If the company fails to do so, we enter into an
open dispute. When handing over letters in the aforementioned operations, the responsible persons took completely different positions.

The boss of Lozano Pub seemed to be sovereign. He began to test very quickly whether he would be able to separate Martin from the rest of us
(he talked him to sit with him at the table and talk to him). Fortunately, Martin did not let himself be broken thanks to our presence.

In the case of Space Manie, we found the chief's husband (who sometimes works in the café) in front of the café entrance. He adhered to his
wife's dead beetle tactics, pretending he was not at all affected by the problem and refused to take over the letter. Asked if we should
leave the letter on the ground in front of the Space Manie door, he phagmatically indicated that it was calm. After our departure he had to
bend it and handed it to his wife. She suddenly came alive, stopped ignoring Mia and wrote her SMS, mentioning the possibility of "agree".
Instead, in fact, she wanted Mia to meet four (!) Attorneys at Space Manie on which she threw the matter to relieve her of the
responsibility to solve the problem.

We couldn't reach Jakub's boss personally, but we exchanged at least a few emails. Since she was the only one who paid the money in due
time, we did not go into an open dispute.

INCREASING THE PRESSURE

We started in a classic way - by media. On the website, we published basic information about the company acting with a call for solidarity
with workers. People could call the business, write their feedback by email, or add a few words to the rating portals.

The second step was specific pressure actions.

At the time we entered the disputes, both Lozano Pube and Space Mania were supposed to host third-party activities (stand-up shows and
children's events). We took this opportunity to inform them of the dispute. We explained that they can help to bring it to an end quickly
and avoid problems if they cooperate with the business during the dispute.

In the case of the owner of Lozano Pub, the reaction was lightning. Whoever chose the Facebook page of the Czech Anarchist Federation, where
he wrote the following for a shared dispute article:

“So to put it right. I used to be an employee Martin didn't contact me in the last year even once until he visited me a restaurant with a
lot in the picture last week. Who surrounded my desk during lunch, which I think is absolutely rude and rude. And their insolence was so
great that they started filming me with a camera as I had lunch. When I asked Martin to stay there, I would investigate what I had in mind,
so one of the insolent and mischievous people told him you were not going with us. If you think that your insolent arrogant behavior is true
to me, then you are wrong, maybe it is true of Japanese whalers. I used to be an employee of my number who knows where to find me and can
talk to me about his problem and if I find that our company owes him something I will see to it. And I give you some advice,

We responded to this:

“During 2017, Martin informed Lozano Pub several times that he was not overpaid. We have SMS communication with repeated promises that money
will be paid. It has not happened so far.

On 30.10. you have been notified of the issue again via a written debt recovery request. Since then, two weeks have elapsed during which you
could have resolved the issue and paid out the € 201 owed.

The only solution to this dispute is to immediately pay the outstanding amount to Martin. When the amount of unpaid leave (which is the sole
reason for the dispute) is paid, we will consider the dispute to be closed. "

Three days after the start of the dispute (or the second day after communication on Facebook), the money owed was paid.

The dispute with the bistro ended even earlier and did not even enter the public phase as the boss sent money to the account before the
deadline.

Thus, the actual escalation of pressure only occurred in the case of Space Manie. There we even received a response from a third party.
Owner of FUNTASIA agency, which cooperated with Space Mania on the so-called. Frozen Party , has written to our attention to the problem and
wrote that Space Manie's practices do not apply to her and therefore will not comment on the matter. We did not intend to accept such an
alibism and therefore we decided to come to the Frozen Party.

On that day we stopped in the center of Senec with leaflets about the dispute and the possibilities of support. People's reactions were
favorable, many already knew about the problem and were surprised that something was happening. Many have promised to disseminate dispute
information to their acquaintances or address the business owner.

Upon arriving in Space Manie, our favorite (owner's husband) shouted at us and shoved into one of us. We responded calmly: we handed out
leaflets to our parents and looked for the owner to tell us when she would pay the money owed. The owner's husband, on the other hand, was
upset and urged the worker behind the counter to call the police, which we found absolutely inappropriate due to the presence of children
(especially if the police really came). After a few minutes we left the premises. We also contacted our parents via Facebook and explained
that it was not our intention to spoil the event for them or their children. We are our parents and explained that we think it is
unacceptable for such people to work with children and do business in such a way that they do not pay money for work.

The stock in Senec was not the only coercive activity. The owner received dozens of e-mails from Slovakia and abroad. In particular,
organizations (and their members) from the International Workers' Association (MAP) from Britain, Norway, Poland, Austria, Russia, Spain and
the USA were involved. The MAP Secretariat also sent an email and support for Mia came from individuals and other friendly organizations
from Britain, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Slovenia, Spain and the US. Several people have also expressed their views, for example,
on the Space Manie Facebook page (where posts have been deleted repeatedly).

We returned to Senec once more. pirate party. We were armed with pirate masks, drums, banners, and we could hear us everywhere. The owner of
the café was not present again, our favorite was replaced by a hired SBS-diamond, who did not bother us, because he was inside almost all
the time. However, we did not leave the boss alone. After about half an hour we moved in front of her apartment block, where we continued
chanting. This action was particularly successful because, although there were a few parents with children, the announced Pirate Party
eventually did not take place.

We did not carry out any further planned activities because, a few days after we agreed on a plan for further action by Miou, she started to
resolve the dispute with the boss without our knowledge. As this was a violation of the joint action agreement, we had to notify Mia that we
were suspending our activities. A week later Mia informed us that the dispute was over. Finally, she did not receive the debt money.

RESULT AND EXPRESSIONS OF WORKERS

Martin got exactly what he wanted. He owed him € 201. Later he wrote to us:

It took a lot of effort, but it was worth what I am very grateful for.

Mia did not receive her money, but she wrote us (as well as Maja) her statement:

Mia:
“I don't want to deal with it anymore. We went there for half a year and it did not go anywhere, but I thank everyone who helped me. I will
not forget that you helped me. Thank you again. ”

Maja:
“ Thank you Direct Action for taking this dispute on my initiative. I really appreciate it, I learned a lot new and I hope there will be an
opportunity to help you. ”

Jakub expressed his impressions in a more extensive interview.

Why did you decide to solve the problem in working with our union?

I have known Direct Action for at least five years and I have always supported it because I sympathize with its activities. I believe that
mutual assistance and solidarity is what can help people to fight injustices arising in today's system. Another reason why I was dealing
with PA was that solving anything with the boss was on a long elbow, even if she said she was willing to solve the matter. I knew I couldn't
get anything by myself, so I contacted PA.

Many people may find it strange or even suspicious that they have not solved the problem through the courts. Have you encountered such an
opinion in your area? What do you think?

I have not spoken much about the problem with the bistro to people in my area, and what they knew about it in advance explained why I think
it is better to deal with a direct action rather than a court case, and what are the disadvantages of a court case. It is primarily the time
that the dispute stretches, and the nerves around it. Especially with regard to the Slovak judiciary.

One of our conditions was that you would be active and that we wouldn't do things for you. Can you tell if there was any difference between
your idea of your own activity at the beginning and what it all involved, for example, in terms of time and need to respond to the
evolution of the problem?

Knowing how PA dispute resolution works, there was no difference between my idea and reality. Of course, preparing for a dispute and solving
details is not a matter of telling info and I don't care, so they take up a lot of time and require a lot of detailed work and patience. But
if we want to achieve something in society, we must work together. :)

What was the hardest thing for you to solve the problem?

The time consumption of these activities was the most difficult. It wasn't some extreme, but since I have a program and duties almost every
day from morning to evening, it was sometimes quite difficult to fit in with the resolution of dispute activities.

How did you feel that you were asking for money for hours you hadn't done?

At first I didn't even plan to ask for it, but when I found out from the Direct Action people that it was possible (and supported by law), I
accepted this option as well. It felt strange to me at first, but then I remembered the chief's sentence that she was going to tell me how
much I would do, which I already thought of as a decent scrub.

How did you experience sharing a letter with a request in a bistro together? What was encouraging or stressful for you?

Of course there was nervousness, but I do not know why I should be afraid to ask for what is rightfully mys. The encouraging moment was the
support from the people who came with me to hand over the letter of requests. I greatly appreciate it and I am pleased that people are able
to show solidarity and not just close to their egoism world. Another positive moment was that I saw my colleagues again. :)
In addition to the handover itself, a stressful moment was the handing over of the letter to the operator, with whom I also have good
relations, and I did not want it to be taken as an attack against her person. On the other hand, I believe she understood what it was.

We know that at some point the proprietor chose a typical employer tactic: she began to intimidate and threaten with criminal complaints,
which is always annoying. How did you feel about it? What would you advise others in this situation?

I didn't feel comfortable, but I expected it. Filing criminal complaints is a frequent tactic of employers in disputes with PA. From what I
know, it has always been fabrications that have no merit. In my case, this was doubled since the campaign had not even started. In spite of
the threat, the boss did not submit any criminal complaint. I would advise others not to be afraid, because if they ask what they belong to,
they certainly do not act illegally.

How did you react when your boss sent you more money than you asked (or what did you think)?

She had already announced this in her last mail. It surprised me, but I did not believe until the amount came to my account. But I wasn't
interested in making money in a bistro (where, by the way, they still do the colleagues I love, and I didn't want to have any negative
impact on them), so I immediately returned her "surplus" .

So how did you feel she sent you more?

She pretended to be a show of kindness and generosity, but in the context of the whole e-mail I felt as if she had put me in the position of
a poor man who "doesn't even have a coat". I'm not a case for charity. I only asked what I owned.

What would you advise someone with a similar problem?

Not only to someone with a similar problem, but to anyone who has or had problems at work, I would advise him to deal with it and not to
accept injustice from bosses or leadership. In the restaurant, but also in other industries, employees should come first because they make a
profit for the boss. Let them get used to not allowing themselves and doing what they want with their employees.

NUMBER DISPUTES

         Lozano  Space Mania     "Bistro"
Length of the dispute (from submission of request letter) in days       14      63      19
Number of solidarity e-mails we know    4       58      0
Amount owed (in euro)   201     222.44  584.61
Amount won (in euros)   201     0       584.61

WHY WE ARE SUCCESSFUL IN TWO DISPUTES AND NOT ONE?

Success in disputes depends primarily on adherence to the agreed strategy. The causes of non-compliance in the case of Space Mania may also
arise in other disputes, and apparently can never be completely avoided. They are mainly related to doubts that arise, for example, from
such questions:

"Will the dispute really be resolved, even if there is no visible shift even after weeks of activity?" It

is understandable to look at the matter in time. The dispute can last for several months and eventually end in success. For example, our
dispute with OZ Divé maky lasted 86 days and ended with the payment of the required EUR 950 owed.

It is also interesting to see when companies capitulate. It has happened several times to us that it was very soon after they had made it
very clear that they would not in any way retreat. It is therefore worth keeping a direct action strategy that simply works.

"Are the documents on the basis of which we prepared the requirements really convincing?"

It is different when a person is in dispute about the amount confirmed by the company itself (the dispute with Lozan), and when the company
claims from the outset that the amount in the claim is meaningless (dispute with Space Mania and the bistro). Although people know that the
truth is on their side, over time they may have doubts. They go into negative reasoning and feel as if they were in court and had to have
bullet proof of their truth, although in some cases it was more of a "word against word".

Although we always base our disputes on documents that would also succeed in the courts, direct action strategies need to be considered
differently. The point is that it is the workers (and not the courts) who determine what is a legitimate and just request. And that they
earn it by their activity, not by relying on someone else.

In addition to factors that are more subjective or psychological, market competition can also play an important role. More precisely, how
business owners perceive the competition . They attribute varying importance to their image, which may be reflected in their stubbornness or
suppleness and hence the duration of the dispute.

Lozano Pub hosted third-party events, and the company knew that in case of problems they could move elsewhere, not to mention that there
were other dining options nearby. The bistro was similar, as there were enough competing establishments in the area.

On the contrary, at the time of the dispute, Space Mania was essentially the only space of its kind in Senec. Even if cooperation with third
parties was abolished, parents would have no choice. So while in the pizzeria and bistro, the threat of long-term money loss took quite a
quick turn, in this case the boss could say that the major profit problems would hardly occur as people with small children would still end
up in Space Mania anyway. However, the café was not profitable and it was likely that sooner or later it would not have a boss to choose and
would have to pay the money owed due to repeated protest actions.

GASTRO - LOTS OF PROBLEMS BUT ANY WISHING TO FIGHT The

restaurant industry is characterized by a significant saving in wages and therefore in the workforce. Of course there are more similar
sectors. From our experience, however, we can say that it was in the gastro that we encountered problems most often. At the same time, there
were the most people who showed their determination not to have them swept.

However, these were people who no longer worked in companies, or their departure was only a matter of time. Organizing it would be different
in cases where companies do and continue to do business, and such experience is yet to come.

Therefore, it was true for the people with whom we were resolving disputes that they were looking for another job at the same time in order
to quickly resolve the loss of income or possibly have a new job. They had to set aside time for planning and activities, and count on
potential stress. Nevertheless, they did not give up and stood up to the leadership, which is a positive signal that even when people are in
a bad situation, they can be active and successfully fight.

Regarding the characteristics and typical problems in this sector, we looked at them more closely and wrote them in brief. We do not
consider the following list to be complete, and we will be happy if you help us to add and improve it in the future, especially if you work
in the restaurant.

General points

Low wages and hence relatively low amounts owed.
At first glance, it might seem that workers are not "worthwhile" to fight for. The opposite is true. We know of large-scale disputes abroad,
but our struggles also involved amounts of just over € 200. We believe that people were willing to fight for these relatively small sums,
also because they knew about our previous disputes, which made it clear that we could succeed.
High fluctuation.
Although this factor does not affect entering into a dispute with gastronomic operations when a worker is no longer working in it,
organizing in such an environment is difficult. But this is everywhere. If we also consider dismissal to be fluctuation, then dismissing
someone (whether legal or illegal) is also possible everywhere. But finding a full replacement quickly is difficult, and many businesses in
the industry are aware of it.
Simple structure of social relations in the workplace.
There is usually the boss / owner, the establishment and the workers. Relationships that arise in this triangle usually turn against workers
in the form of emotional or social pressure . (This pressure from distorted "friendship" relationships with management is sometimes so
powerful that it can negatively affect workers even when they're no longer working in the company.) If there are no people in the workplace
they have intimidated the whole team.

Employment and salary points

Low awareness of workers 'and companies' rights and obligations.
As far as companies are concerned, it may seem that they are just playing it, but it is not always so - sometimes they really don't know
what they are saying. As for workers, it is always good to know the laws. Not knowing what I am entitled to can cause me not to solve my
problem. There are many sites on the Internet that provide valuable legal advice in clear terms. It is not the best solution to rely solely
on them if they are interested in going into a dispute, but they will certainly serve to raise legal awareness of whether the workplace is
violating laws.
Frequent occurrence of invalid, respectively. incomplete employment contracts.
Again, it can be an amateur business, but also an intention. At the same time, it is sufficient that one of the essential or regular
requirements of an employment contract is missing and this may have a negative impact on working or wage conditions. For details about how
we wrote after a dispute with bistro article from March 2019 called 'unpaid wages and wage compensation - what should I do? " .
Bad or non-existent pay slips.
We also described this issue in the above-mentioned article, so only in a nutshell - the paycheck is another official document and proof of
how much money you receive. It can be compared with the data in the contract and the time actually worked. Any discrepancies can be applied
against the company in the event of a dispute.
Unclear records of hours worked.
Yes, time is money, and if you don't know how much you work, you don't know if you're getting the right wage. If the paper is less hours
worked than you actually work, a business can pick up and pay you less at any time. The documentary evidence will be on the side of the
company, which does not mean that there is no chance of winning the remaining money, but it is associated with greater complications.
Work for a minimum wage, with extra money being paid “on hand”, sometimes totally without documentation.
The actual payroll is then difficult to prove and recover. The problem is that the boss decides how much you receive at your discretion,
your current business needs or your mood. It can be the same amount for a long time, but there is no guarantee that it will be like this in
a month or even at all.
Degree of labor intensity.
The degree of labor intensity is not much talked about, but it is one of the key points, especially for people who receive a minimum wage.
There are six levels of labor intensity. The minimum wage is set for people working on the agreement on the basis of the first level (since
January 1, 2020 it is 580 € gross per month). For others, the degree of labor intensity is determined by the type of work and work tasks. It
is always necessary to verify that the company has classified you correctly.
Unpaid or so-called "test" work.
This company tactic is often combined with delaying the signing of an employment contract. Sometimes people work "free" for several days and
prefer to leave rather than solve it.

Occupational Health and Safety (OSH)

Occupational health and safety provisions can be a strong motive for the fight to improve working conditions. Changes in the restaurant
industry are commonly worked on (often over 8 hours), overtime work, evening work, weekends and public holidays, flexibility in getting
involved with colleagues. These factors can upset the balance between work and personal or family life and cause increased stress.
Work as such is often demanding both physically (a person is still on his feet) and mentally (contact with people). In addition, companies
have no problem breaching OSH in respect of compliance with mandatory breaks or leisure. A separate chapter is also (non) compliance with
hygiene regulations.

STATISTICS The

Statistical Office defines as the activities of restaurants and hospitality the following: restaurant activities and mobile food sales, food
delivery and other catering services and services. When we talk about the restaurant industry, we mean exactly these activities.

The number of people employed in restaurants and restaurants has been increasing in recent years and almost 50,000 people work in them at
the time of the brochure.

The average wage in restaurants and restaurants is close to the minimum wage. The data for 2018 and 2019 show that it increased slightly
during the year, but to the level of the minimum wage, resp. it was slightly above her in the second half of both years. The data in the
table show the average gross wage not reduced by statutory or employee deductions (business income is not included in this amount). The
minimum wage in the economy was € 480 in 2018 and € 520 in 2019. Quarters in which the average wage is lower than the minimum could be
explained by part-time work. However, it is obvious that the official wages in this sector are extremely low.

New details appeared in the Network case. Those that can fundamentally change the whole case, and especially the public's relationship to
the convicts. On Friday, February 21, a text was released on the Russian opposition news site Meduza claiming that the pension network
network was involved in drug trafficking, but mainly that two of its members Ivankin and Poltavec murdered two people in the forest in
spring 2017, who wanted to leave the group. ---- Now it seems as if the seven political prisoners were not freedom fighters, but ordinary
criminals and drug dealers. This is the impression the reader of this article will take, especially when the editors add to it how difficult
it was for her to disclose this information. ---- Tens of thousands of people have been openly or indirectly supported by people sentenced
in the Network case after high sentences. It is the first time in the post-Soviet era that anarchists received such mass support. There is
no need to explain how this text can disrupt it.

Our friend Mikola Dziadok, therefore, thoroughly read the article and concluded that this is very likely a fake report backed by the Federal
Security Service (FSB). all who publicly argued for them.

Why did he think that and what conclusions did he reach?

* The article published on Medusa said that the FSB itself knew about the murders, but did not investigate them, as this would put the case
outside its jurisdiction and would not have its accused of terrorism. But this would probably be the first time the FSB respects legal
procedures. And she could have investigated murders as part of terrorist activity, right? If she accused the anarchists of murder, she would
surely beat the confessions out of them, find a drug production laboratory - and the accused would never have public support, no one would
have mercy. Even penalties could be higher.

* Important is the author of new information Maxim Solopov, who allegedly found the murders and sale of drugs related to the tried
anarchists. It is a typical representative of the so-called Russian anti-fascism. He is a Stalinist, a patriot, an ardent opponent of the
"Bander". It is the same Solopov, for which the Russian embassy was fired in solidarity in Minsk in 2010 (he was arrested for participating
in protests against the felling of the Chimsky Forest). His group then distanced themselves from anarchist support. However, Solopov's
search for pension killers is very leaky, as if hastily blinded by unrelated facts. But the topic is hot, so why not post such an insecure
version and do some advertising? Both Solopov and Medusa succeeded.

* Why did the article come out right now? It is not clear what the aim was to publish. To get the murderers sitting? But it was supposed to
come out six months ago or a year ago. So as not to disrupt the campaign to support the accused? Now he discredited much more. To not
endanger the innocent? She did it - now she is safe in prison with absurdly high sentences. But it is possible to assume completely
different goals: as if someone were waiting for a solidarity campaign to reach its peak and join as many people as possible, thus making the
published article as effective as possible against this solidarity.

The fact is that the text from Medusa did not pass. A lot of comments work with that double murder as a proven fact. Surprisingly, several
anarchists also jumped on the decoy of the article. Even the insurectionist (!) Group of Anarchy today described the Pension Network as
miserable and urged everyone to stop supporting them.

First of all, it should be reminded that informationally questionable texts based on a Stalinist assertion do not prove the guilt of our
friends. No one should think that liberal media will always stand for anarchists. They do have their own interests. Mezuda simply pursues
his interests, both political and financial. And for some time she expressed support for pension anarchists. This does not mean, however,
that he informs objectively and that everything he publishes is true.

What is particularly worrying is the fact that with this "search" and the subsequent discussion of guilt, the problem of "moral anarchists"
has inflated enormously. Instead of torture and absurdly punishment, attention suddenly focuses on the disappointment that
vegan-anti-fascists may not be as perfect pets as they were presented. People are subject to a sort of heroic stereotype that a warrior
against the regime is a crystal-clear personality. But this is not usually the case. Like life itself, the revolutionary struggle is complex
and full of contradictions. Otherwise, bad people do good things and vice versa. We know anarchists who talk about equality, yet they use
uncompromising leadership methods, talk about the truth, and lie to their comrades in the eyes ... Because they are just people. It is
possible and necessary to discuss this, but this is another topic. And it is not a reason to renounce the movement and its goals. The more
dangerous the revolutionary struggle, the more complex and ambiguous situations there will be, the moments when complicated decisions need
to be made. There will not always be clear culprits, and heroes will sometimes do totally non-heroic things. This is not a reason for panic
and resignation.

There is no point in having foolish debates about whether Ivankin and Poltavec are indeed guilty of murder or not. In fact, probably only
two people know - Ivankin and Poltavec himself (certainly not journalists from Medusa and their girlfriends). If we don't have enough facts,
nothing can be said. There are only three things:

Regardless of the level of guilt, in Russia people will not be impartially investigated and fairly judged for the murders.

No new facts change the fact that convicts in the Network case are political prisoners of the regime who have been subjected to torture.

No bad actions by individual anarchists will destroy the anarchist ideas. People are people and ideas are ideas. People are born and die,
they make mistakes and knowingly wrong things. The ideals of good and justice upon which anarchism is built will survive each of us.

Whatever the story of the Network case ends, it is now clear that the authority of the liberal media is being overemphasised and forgotten
that they pursue their own goals; and that the anarchist movement is less resistant to information attacks. It is high time to think about it.

This is a scenario that is cut out of the FSB Agent 'Disinformation Guide'. We are not adherents to conspiracy theories, but if the current
Russian regime is reasonably suspected of interfering in the United States elections and a referendum on Brexit in the UK, it is not
difficult for him to run a campaign for discrediting political prisoners. Especially when he condemned them in such a blatant staged trial
on the basis of torture-enforced confessions during "interrogations". Let's not be fooled.

The legendary anarchist also loved the philosopher of "negativity." He defended his ideas at conferences and toured the world. Both she and
many others considered him a kind of prophet of breaking with the past and furious iconoclast ---- Between 1913 and 1917 Emma Goldman gave a
series of public talks throughout the United States about Nietzsche and the important of her theories for the anarchist theme of the moment.
At least there are about twenty-three talks, from Los Angeles to New York, talking about the relationship of Nietzsche's thinking in
relation to the themes of atheism, anti-statism and (framed in the context of World War I) anti-nationalism and anti-militarism. ---- It may
seem that Emma's evaluation of Nietzsche was merely informal, and that only the texts of those talks were consulted to verify the exact
nature of her claim of Nietzsche as relevant to anarchism, but that is not the case. Due to the police records in the offices of Mother
Earth , the anarchist newspaper that co-edited Goldman, all materials suspected of sedition or attacking the American war effort were
confiscated. Emma Goldman was trying unsuccessfully to find copies of her talks. So the texts of his talks about Nietzsche were lost for
posterity.

Despite this, other references make it possible to know the importance of Nietzsche's thinking for Emma Goldman for a modern practice of
anarchism, and the debt she recognized in the formation of her thinking. Through Emma's essays we find brief references to Nietzsche. Being
in his biography, Living my life (published in 1930, years after these readings), where he clarifies the formative influence of Nietzsche on
her, which gave him an energy not only intellectual but in his personal life. References published in the Free Society and Mother Earth
newspapers also survived, on the mentioned talks, and although superficial they give some content of their talks on this subject. Combining
both types of sources can give us some guidance on what Emma Goldman may have commented on Nietzsche in her talks. Understanding the
importance of Nietzsche's thinking in anarchist theory and practice, which was after all what Emma Goldman was looking to communicate.

FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE LITTLE BEFORE DEATH (1899)

Emma Goldman cites as her first contact with the figure of Nietzsche during her stay in Vienna , between 1895 and 1899, when she studied for
a nurse and midwife there. Apart from his studies, he visited London and Paris where he gave clandestine anarchist talks , beginning to have
an international reputation in the revolutionary environment. Thus he met Kropotkin, Michel and Malatesta; but his autobiography shows that
among the authors who influenced to be an anarchist was Nietzsche.

THE BOHEMIOS AND THE PROPHET

«Nietzsche was considered by the bohemians of the end of the century, especially in the German-speaking world, as an example of an
iconoclast, as a kind of prophet of the rupture with the remains and ballast of the oppressive past, morality, religion, conventions and
institutions»

EMMA GOLDMAN AND ALEXANDER BERKMAN (1917-1919)

For her, themes of a cultural nature - music, drama and literature - had the same influence in revolutionary terms as the more directly
political issues. While in Europe, apart from anarchist encounters, he listened to Wagner's opera, saw Eleonora Duse (famous Italian actress
famous for her roles in Ibsen's works), was in talks by Levy Bruhl (sociologist who studied the mentality of primitive peoples ) and Sigmund
Freud . He also discovered the works of Henrik Ibsen, Gerhart Hauptmann (creator of the social drama genre) and Hugo von Hofmannsthal
(theatrical writer and librettist of Richard Strauss' most celebrated opera), as well as Nietzsche. Those writers especially praised
"launching their attacks against the old values," a fact she saw compatible with the anarchist spirit.

All these names were among the European avant-garde of the moment. Nietzsche was considered by the bohemians of the end of the century,
especially in the German-speaking world, as an example of an iconoclast, as a kind of prophet of the rupture with the remains and ballast of
the oppressive past, morality, religion, conventions and Institutions At the end of the century it was associated with the rejection of the
inheritance of traditions.

«THE MOST DARE OF THE YOUNG ICONOCLASTS»

«In her final essays Emma Goldman gave greater importance to the influence of art and literature than to propaganda, than to purely
political discourse»
As an anarchist, Emma Goldman was very enthusiastic, adding the factors of being a woman and a Jew, her interest in Nietzsche being the most
remarkable. He tried to combine his passion with Nietzsche ("the most daring of young iconoclasts") with the anarchist closest to her at
that time, Edward Brady (Austrian anarchist and with whom he shared an intense love affair), which did not share his enthusiasm By himself.
He ended up breaking his relations with Brady, because he claimed that Nietzsche was a madman, a guy with a sick mind, stating that he would
be forgotten in less than a decade along with his entire generation. Furious with that discussion Emma described him as anchored in
everything old and outdated and that he would not take her with him, feeling free herself even if her heart missed him. The transvaluation
of all Nietzschean values was one of his main passions.

After this break, Emma embarked on a tour of talks in anarchist circles related to the Free Soctiey newspaper. Presenting on the tour, in
Philadelfia (February 1898) a talk entitled "the basis of morality" citing Nietzsche in his allusion against the oppression of moral and
legal systems. All this collected as a reference in the aforementioned publication. Being his tactic of placing political references next to
the literary ones that prints his speech, and gives us evidence of his belief that artistic expression gives us intuition and revolutionary
inspiration the same or even to a greater extent than political discourses.

POSTER OF A GOLDMAN CONFERENCE

GOLDMAN AND THE "SUPERMAN"

«My absence of faith in the majority is dictated by my faith in the potential of the individual»
In her final essays Emma Goldman gave greater importance to the influence of art and literature than to propaganda, than to purely political
discourse. Thus, from 1906 onwards, in his publication Mother Earth, he sought a forum for theoretical discussion as well as "socially
representative" art. Reaching its clearest expression in 1911 in his essay Anarchism and other essays.

All this leads her to reiterate that Nietzsche's modes of expression - poetic, literary and even visionary - are as important as the content
they convey. Time and again in her essays and talks, Emma Goldman defends Nietzschean concepts in the same way she faced Brady's prejudices.
He endeavored to clarify certain misunderstandings about the ideas of Nietzsche that circulated in America before the First World War.
Unambiguous later retaken by the Nazis after the philosopher had ceased to be a guide between intellectuals and artists (misunderstanding
encouraged by his interested sister Elizabeth). Most of the misunderstandings had to do with the concept of superman as well as his ideas
concerning an "aristocratic" individualism, which Emma saw as something close to Max Stirner . She explained herself by stating that the
idea of superman was that of a society that did not give rise to a race of faint-hearted or slaves.

Thus promulgating atheism instead of Christianity (or Judaism that she had rejected), Emma bases her opposition position on the
individualism of Nietzsche and Stirner, for which she tells us that "they have undertaken the undervaluation of social dead values and
morals of the past». Affirming that both authors oppose Christianity because they see it as a moral of slaves, the denial of life, the
destroyer of all the elements that make strength and character. Having to overcome old traditions and outdated values to learn to create new
and beautiful things.

All these issues were reiterated in Emma's talks that happened in the period of 1913-1917. Many of the talks were directly about Nietzsche
or related topics. Although their texts were lost, it can be deduced from some reviews that the talk texts were very similar, although the
titles of the talks varied according to the audience to which they were addressed. For example, on several occasions she addressed her
audience with the theme "Nietzsche, the intellectual storm of central Europe" , "Nietzsche, the intellectual storm of the Central European
War" , "Nietzsche, the intellectual center of the Great Guerra» or «Nietzsche and the German Kaiser» .

These readings, combined with another anti-war and anti-recruitment activity resulted in 1917 (the year of America's war entry into the
great war) with his arrest and that of Alexander Berkman with accusations of conspiracy to hinder recruitment, and his subsequent
deportation to communist Russia.

Other of his talks on this tour were related to the relevance of Nietzsche's thinking on a wide variety of anarchist issues: individualism,
atheism, anti-statism and anti-moralism . The rest, although not directly related to Nietzsche, testified to Emma's willingness to report on
the discussion of social issues: female suffrage, birth control, free love - along with the concepts of individualism of Nietzsche and
Stirner. Thus he stated: «My absence of faith in the majority is dictated by my faith in the potential of the individual. Only when he
becomes free to choose his companions for a common purpose can we expect order and harmony in this world of chaos and inequality.

THE STATE IS A «COLD MONSTER»

«Nietzsche called the state a cold monster. What would he have called the horrible beast of modern dictatorships?
On July 25, 1915, he gave a talk in San Francisco, "Nietzsche, the intellectual storm of war," which was described in Mother Earth, where he
again faced the task of replicating accusations about the philosopher, including those who spoke of the "man who had advocated for the will
to power ... was responsible for the current carnage in Europe." Affirming that those who claim this simply "prove that they have not
understood Nietzsche's thinking." Emma also makes a similar approach in her essay (date unknown) Jealousy: causes and possible cure .

In his readings and essays one can see a cross of Nietzschean individualism alongside a Kropotkian collectivism, which makes his thinking
peculiar . Thus, she advocates the autonomy of the self and its autonomy, while she herself is interested in the social, as issues of women,
childhood, education and relations between the sexes.

But he always insists that autonomy should never be sacrificed for the sake of the community that both communist and socialist affirm, as
well as some forms of anarchism, such as anarcho-syndicalism, which sees the masses or workers as a revolutionary subject. Being in this, as
always, his example. He said: «Nietzsche called the state a cold monster. What would he have called the horrible beast of modern
dictatorships? ... "The individual is nothing," they declare, "it is the community that counts." Nothing but the complete surrender of the
individual will satisfy the insatiable appetite of the new deity.

But Emma distinguished the term "individualism" from the dominant American conception of "resistant individualism . " It rejects this
concept as it means "all individualism for the powerful while people are organized in a slave caste to serve a handful of self-styled
supermen ." A similar theme would have been the talk he gave in January 1917 in New York, "The state and its powerful opponents: Friedrich
Nietzsche, Max Stirner, Ralph Waldo Emerson, David (sic) Thoreau and others."

As an anarchist of European tradition his thinking was intellectually, culturally and linguistically distinct from other radical Americans,
such as Benjamin Tucker . The American heritage of dissent derived its character from a combination of Protestantism, Emerson / Thoreau
individualism and Jeffersonian democracy . Philosophies of which Emma's anarchism had little. So he reformulated Stirner's concept of self
and Kropotkin's collectivism and combined them with Nietzsche's concept of transvaluation of all values, applying the whole to the American
socio-cultural context.

Emma's talks about Nietzsche, about the philosopher's thoughts, sent a posthumous message. And this for Emma represented the objective of
anarchism as she saw it - a vision that allowed her to affirm that "Nietzsche was an anarchist . "
