Dear friends, A man in Slidell, Louisiana has been arrested for kidnapping and torturing his ex-girlfriend's dog, the latter having been recorded on a doorbell camera. The heartbreaking video shows Shane Michael Mitchell, the abuser in question, standing outside the apartment. He's visibly angry while the pup, named Rubyjean, sits quietly by his side. In a fit of rage, Mitchell suddenly grabs the helpless dog's leash and hoists her high into the air. He pulls on her leash with such force that, in the blink of an eye, Rubyjean is jerked straight up, dangling from her collar-noose. The tippy-toes of her hind legs are just barely touching the ground. Mitchell continues holding her there until she begins choking. Mitchell's actions were so horrific and uncalled for, it caused an immediate visceral reaction in the community. The local police chief told reporters "I was sick to my stomach watching that video." Although Mitchell was arrested, we have to make sure this case doesn't just get swept under the rug or forgotten. There's a danger that Mitchell could still go free — giving him the ability to continue subjecting innocent animals or other humans to his violent, cruel tendencies.
