Our regular, monthly reading group meetings are currently on hold due to Covid 19. Until we'll be able to meet again, we'll switch from
books to films and recommend documentaries relevant to anarchists. ---- This is a documentary we already looked at in the early reading
group days, however, it's an excellent introduction to anarchist history, especially for anyone new to the subject! ---- While a couple of
things might be simplified (and not all interviewees have the credentials they claim to have, i.e. Michael Schmidt), this summary of
anarchist movements around the world is a great source to start your research with! ---- part 1:

"Only the people save the people": this is the idea which motivated the Popular Solidarity Brigades, mutual aid teams in the direction of
the most precarious layers of the popular classes. ---- Noting that the capitalist disorder had led to the Covid-19 pandemic, and that the
state would hardly help the working classes, who would nevertheless be the first to pay the price, direct solidarity networks were
spontaneously set up in both rural and urban areas. To combine local solidarity action and political demand, comrades close to the militant
media ACTA first launched a call to form Popular Solidarity Brigades (BSP), following the model of the Brigate Volontarie Per l'Emergenza
("brigades Emergency Volunteers") launched in Milan, Italy.
Quickly, many groups were formed all over France, and UCL activists took part in several places. In Paris and Lyon, UCL premises are made
available for collection, storage and distribution.

Each brigade adapts to local realities. In Montreuil, a BSP thus set up in a perspective of class mutual aid around the squat occupied rue
de Stalingrad by nearly 200 undocumented workers from the former home of migrant workers in rue Bara. Two offices were also opened - one in
the AERI space, rue Etienne-Marcel, the other in Haut-Montreuil - to cook, collect meals prepared by residents, collect hygiene products and
distribute to those who need it. As soon as a need is identified, the brigade organizes itself to meet it.

The group is also trying to set up tutoring for children for whom dropping out of school due to confinement could prove to be catastrophic.

Developing our solutions
The BSPs also carry political demands and watchwords. In Île-de-France, these are five major unitary demands: the requisition of empty
hotels to house the homeless, the regularization of undocumented migrants, the freezing of rents, the stoppage of work in non-essential
sectors and the allocation of containment income.

The BSPs have the will to organize themselves beyond confinement, even when the health situation has changed. There is every interest in
pushing for the development of this network and in making the link with the wrestling unions which also act in the current period and will
be on the front line in the "after". We must anticipate the economic fallout from the current crisis on the proletariat, and already defend
post-containment political necessities, such as the socialization of the health system and the pharmaceutical industry, or the requisition
and reorganization. of the production and distribution system, on self-managed bases, under popular control.

assembly that brought together some fifty staff:  ---- " Let's make our anger!
We were put at risk by not providing enough protective materials... We found ourselves under-force in the face of the epidemic... Despite
the applause and support of the population.. We are angry because despite our warning, all the policies of the past thirty years have
weakened the public hospital... Today we can't accept a return to budget austerity... We want immediately:
- 300 euros pay increase for all
- The immediate hiring of all CSD, the title of all contractors...
- Massive recruitment in all services

Join the Water crowdfunding campaign to support the construction of water infrastructure in northeastern Syria. ---- Organization of
Co-operation in Mesopotamia launched recently dedicated crowd funding platform campaign for Rojava Water (Water for Rojava), designed to
promote the building of water infrastructure in northeastern Syria. So far, almost a quarter of the 100,000 pound target has been raised.
---- The Committee for the Defense of the Revolution in Rojava prepared a translation of the title text of the campaign. You can find more
information in the thematic video, which has Czech subtitles (on Facebook HERE ), or directly on the crowdfunding project website:
https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/water-for-rojava .

In the area of north-eastern Syria, known under the Kurdish name Rojava, since 2012, the people have been building a self-governing system
based on bottom-up democracy, ecology and the liberation of women, in which all ethnic and religious communities can live together. A system
based on autonomy, self-determination and equality, which works through neighborhood meetings and emphasizes gender equality and the values
of ethnic and religious pluralism.

But now Rojava faces major threats: war, embargo and water shortages.

Already when the revolution in Rojava started in 2012, groundwater levels were very low, mainly due to the monoculture economy operated by
the Syrian regime in the area for four decades, as well as the decrease in rainfall associated with the global climate crisis.

Three years later, Turkey began using water as a weapon against the Swarm, when it began to hold water on dams it had built on rivers
flowing from Turkey to Syria over the past twenty years.

Then, in October 2019, the Turkish armed forces invaded some areas of northeastern Syria, including the Serê Kanîyê region, which supplies
water to nearly half a million people around Hasaka. The Alouk waterworks in Serê Kanîyê became the target on the first day of the invasion.
Subsequently, it was repaired several times and decommissioned again.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Serê Kanîyê, Turkish armed forces and their allies have continued to attack water infrastructure,
burning newly planted orchards and damming rivers, which are a source of drinking water and electricity for most of Syria. Hundreds of
thousands of people thus found themselves without a reliable source of drinking water.

This situation is now becoming completely unbearable, in the light of the COVID-19 threat. At a time of global pandemic, access to water is
needed more than ever.

"In the midst of a global pandemic that puts the sophisticated infrastructure of other governments at bay, Turkish authorities have decided
to cut off regions in Syria that are already under tremendous pressure," said Michael Page, Deputy Director of Human Rights Watch for the
Middle East.

Now the people of Rojava need our help. We want to raise £ 100,000 to support the necessary water infrastructure in north-eastern Syria.

A small private foundation from the United Kingdom, which has supported various projects in the region in the past, has promised to double
the amount collected: it donates another for each pound selected, up to 50,000. This means that to reach our goal of £ 100,000, we only need
to pick half!

The money raised will be partly donated to women's cooperatives and democratic local governments working on projects such as repairing
infrastructure damaged by bombing, digging new wells and purchasing pumps for refugee camps, partly to support long-term projects such as
the irrigation system on a cooperative farm or river cleaning project.

Despite the ongoing war, the people of Rojava are still working together to rebuild their lives, ecology and economy.

You can support them in their efforts. Please let your friends know about the campaign and contribute if you can.

Water must not be a weapon. Av jîyan e - water is life!

Who we are?

The Solidarity Economic Association (SEA) is working on the project together with Aborîya Jin (Women's Economy) in Northeast Syria, the
Italian non-profit organization Un Ponte Per, the humanitarian organization Heyva Sor and Kurdistanê (Kurdish Red Crescent), the Swiss Roots
for Change and the Save the Tigris campaign. Let's save Tigris).

The Association of Solidarity Economics (SEA) has been operating for some time as a partner of primarily women's autonomous structures in
the region. When Turkey launched another invasion of Syria on October 9, an engineer was working on the spot to work with SEA and Aborîya
Jin to map renewable energy projects. For almost all, the common denominator was water. Energy is often needed in the area, especially to
reach declining groundwater levels, to build new wells or to irrigate the soil. To this is added the (relatively smaller) need for
electricity for households.
https://www.solidarityeconomy.coop/

Aborîya Jin (Women's Economy) is a democratic and autonomous economic institution that is part of the women's movement in northeastern
Syria. It operates across the region and seeks to strengthen the role of women in society, women's self-sufficiency, security and collective
autonomy. Aborîya Jin is a key figure in the development of women's cooperation in the region and supports, among other things, the
establishment of communities of families who lost their chief breadwinner in the war.

Un Ponte Per (UPP) has been operating in Italy and the Middle East for twenty-eight years. It promotes peace, human rights and solidarity
through information campaigns, cultural exchanges, cooperation projects, peace-building programs and networking with an emphasis on social
justice.
https://www.unponteper.it/en/

Heyva Sor UK is the British branch of the humanitarian non-profit organization Kurdish Red Crescent. It provides health care and assistance
to refugees in wider Kurdistan, northeastern Syria and elsewhere. It operates as a registered charity in the United Kingdom.
http://www.heyvasoruk.org/

Roots for Change is a non-profit environmental organization operating in Switzerland, northeastern Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan. It aims to
promote renewable energy sources, water management systems and sustainable agricultural practices such as agroforestry.
https://rootsforchange.info/

Save the Tigris is a campaign led by a coalition of civic initiatives on dams, river pollution and water management, and water availability
in Iraq and northeastern Syria. The campaign has a network of water activists across the region, including UPPs.
https://www.savethetigris.org/who-we-are/

How is the money spent?

Selected funds will serve as resources for local initiatives, municipalities and organizations established by civil society. They will help
meet the acute need for water pumps for refugee camps, as well as long-term projects such as farm irrigation or river cleaning. We want to
set up a fund that can respond to the changing situation in an extremely volatile region and at the same time remain extremely responsible.

The fund is to be managed by two committees: one based in Europe, the other in north-eastern Syria. All work and related costs will be
documented so that they can be traced back.

Several pre-prepared projects can be launched immediately. So once we send your contributions to the region, they won't have to wait long to
use them.

For example, it will support:

... Aborîya Jin cooperative projects, such as:
* an ecological women's village in Derik. It is a community built on a community economy run mainly by women from economically disadvantaged
backgrounds who have experience in agriculture. The main challenge here is to get enough water to farm.
* digging wells and pumping water for previously launched projects. These are mainly irrigation systems for new cooperative farms and small,
predominantly agricultural projects for women who are in dire need of access to water.

... Plans of local water authorities, which include:
* Renovation of the Al Hemmeh water pumping station, which should replenish its reservoir at Hassaka on the Khabour River. It is now urgent
due to the bombing of the Allok waterworks in Serê Kanîyê.
* extension of the water supply network to the Talae neighborhood in Hassac, where scarce water reservoirs are currently used.
* sewage systems and waste solutions in buildings such as Kámišlí, where sewage flows into the river.
* provision of material needed for the administration, renewal, operation and maintenance of water distribution systems in cities.
* management of smaller public water resources.
* distillation / desalination of water.
* cleaning and revitalization of the river Jak Jak (Kurdish Cexcex ) in Kámišlí.

... a system of assistance to national refugees and receiving communities through:
* distribution of hygiene packages, water disinfection tablets, tanks and other emergency transport equipment, provision of sanitation
facilities in refugee camps, refugee-receiving communities and other collective centers.
* acquisition and installation of high-volume pumps, which should transport water from the Euphrates to remote refugee camps.
* repair and maintenance of latrines in camps.
* sustainable water supply systems in camps such as Al Hole.

You can contribute through the crowdfunding portal of the campaign:

On the night of May 17-18, we regretfully learned about the death of our colleague employed at the Amazon logistics center near Poznan. On
behalf of the entire National Trade Union Employee Initiative, we express our sincere regret and compassion for the relatives of the
deceased. It is difficult to find the right words in the face of the blow that fell on the employee's family. We can only wish a lot of
strength to bear this pain. ---- We would also like to assure you that the collective management organization will continue its efforts to
prevent such tragedies from happening. For several years, we have been conducting disputes with the company regarding working conditions,
focusing primarily on occupational health and safety. We entered into a collective dispute twice demanding, among others stop the automatic
punishment of employees for results below 100% of the norm and permanent employment contracts for everyone who has gone through a 3-month
trial period. Often, during negotiations with the company, we demanded changes such as extending breaks or allowing employees to rest during
work, e.g. by using the chair whenever the employee feels tired. After our intervention at the National Labor Inspectorate, Amazon was
forced to introduce chairs in rest areas.

After the pandemic was announced, Amazon fulfilled some of the union's demands. Weekly standards were suspended, breaks were extended. The
company explains in a message to employees that these changes are necessary so that employees can properly take care of their safety and
hygiene at work. We have been talking for years that getting over 100% of the standard does not go hand-in-hand with safe working
conditions. Interestingly, without employee ratings that are designed to get the most out of us, Amazon has recently made huge profits. In
March, the entire warehouse in Poznan performed from 100 to 104.9% of the expected rate of productivity. This shows that it is not necessary
to constantly put pressure on employees, perhaps even to the detriment of the company.

If employees really are to focus on their safety, it is necessary to guarantee them stable employment. The change in the form of suspension
of employee assessments is fictitious if the company employs 70% of the crew on unstable contracts. Especially now, when working in a
warehouse is associated with a high risk of infection or the consequences of working at full capacity with restrictions introduced, Amazon
should change the employment model to a more stable one. Meanwhile, the company did the exact opposite. Warehouses that did not employ
employees in the past through temporary employment agencies are currently doing so. Where agencies recruited for monthly contracts,
contracts signed for a period of two weeks have become the norm! Employees who feel unwell but they have short-term temporary employment
contracts and who dare to go on sick leave, are punished by not extending their contracts or shortening them to another two weeks. Also
employees with a blue ID (employed by Amazon) on temporary contracts, going on sick leave, risk that their contracts will not be extended.
In addition, even if Amazon has stopped issuing weekly assessments, individual standards are still registered in the system, employees are
informed about them and on this basis decisions are made to extend the contract and even permission to work overtime. In addition, the
benchmark is the performance indicators before the change in the organization of work for the period of the epidemic. The Employee
Initiative reported to Amazon a request that, as in Germany, the company assured all employees that their contracts during the crisis would
be extended, regardless of the norm and sick leave. We often point out that subjecting some employees to enormous pressure caused by the
need to fight for another contract affects working conditions in general and exposes all employees to the consequences of working in an
environment that creates a risk to their health and life.

The deceased woman worked mainly in the stow department, on the tower called Pick Tower. In 2017, a court expert in the field of
occupational health and safety Jaroslaw Luska visited the same tower in a warehouse in Poznan, making an assessment of occupational health
and safety in Sady. First of all, he pointed out that the employer does not adapt work conditions and processes to the psychophysical
capabilities of the employee at all. The expert also argued that the employer should provide for different labor standards depending on age.
"Psychophysical possibilities of man decrease with age, therefore, especially at the forced pace of work, the same norms for 20 and
50-year-olds should not be used." Other norms should also apply to men and women. The reviews also read that Amazon does not organize the
working time in the magazines incorrectly: "In the entire work organization process, the defendant did not take into account the adaptation
of working conditions to the psychophysical capabilities of the employee-employee. Knowing the nature of work should, for example, reduce
working time, use more frequent breaks in work, and not extend it to 10.5 hours a day, giving an additional 30-minute break worked by
employees. " The expert said that the management and organization of health and safety at Amazon "does not even meet the general
requirements" and may cause mental and physical injuries. In his opinion, in Amazon there are such psychophysical threats as: overload of
walking work, high time pressure caused by the need to comply with norms, shift work, night work, extended work disturbing social relations,
limited participation in decision making, no impact on workload,

Unfortunately, as employees and trade union representatives, we are forced to agree with the expert. Perhaps the tragedy that happened in
Amazon would not happen if the company finally began to take employees and the voice of the social side seriously. The ignorance that Amazon
shows regarding employee health is illustrated by the mask policy. At the beginning of the pandemic, donning them was forbidden because of
the ban on covering the face. At the time, both trade unions demanded that the ban be lifted and that they be allowed to be worn on a
voluntary basis. It has been like that for some time. Finally, the company introduced a strict obligation to cover the nose and mouth. At
the same time, from among ordinary employees who do not specialize in health and safety regulations, additional law enforcement services
were recruited to discipline others and to write down the data of these, who, for example, temporarily dropped their mask from their noses.
Although the ordinance of the Council of Ministers provided for exceptions to wearing a mask and did not introduce an obligation to wear
them in all workplaces, Amazon did not provide for these exceptions. The obligation applied to everyone, regardless of health status. We
meant this rigid approach by chanting the slogan "we are not robots". The company automates our movements, organizes our work in the most
routine and monotonous way, controls and calculates all our activities, sets the pace of work in advance, does not take into account the
fact that employees are in different health, at different ages, have different sex, other needs and their psycho-physical condition changes.

More importantly, when changing the organization of work, Amazon ignored the necessary energy expenditure and workplace risk studies.
Earlier, research on energy expenditure carried out at the request of associations by PIP showed significant expenditure overruns in several
sections. The company explicitly ignores the fact that it is a real threat to employees' lives and clearly tries to avoid such measurements.
The provisions of the Labor Code were also broken, introducing, on radical terms, new personal protective equipment without any agreement
with the social party. Amazon does not consider trade unions as partners in making decisions. The company has recently been punished by the
Courts in France for not consulting employees' representatives on workplace safety. This is a common practice used by the company in
warehouses. We demand that the company take employee representatives seriously, especially when it comes to consulting changes in the
organization of work and assessing the risks that are inherent in these changes.

We are afraid that due to current regulations regarding accidents at work, the situation from the Poznan warehouse will not be considered an
accident and it will be easy to sweep it under the rug. We - Amazon warehouse employees - however, know perfectly well how we feel after
each change and how much the organization of work at Amazon affects our lives and destroys our health. We will not stop fighting to defend
our interests and improve working conditions. We call on all employees of Polish Amazon magazines to actively participate in trade unions,
support the activities of the unions and oppose the practices of the company that hits our health and our dignity. Only mass mobilization
will improve the quality of our working conditions, and thus our lives. Together, we must take responsibility for the work environment, in
which we spend over 40 hours a week and push through changes that will guarantee us an appropriate level of safety and hygiene. Amazon
strives to set work standards and develop its monopoly globally, and imposing discipline on us is a key element of this strategy. This is
not an equal fight, but in the struggle with the giant we are not alone.

Acting in defense of our interests, we cooperate with employees of other countries, thanks to which we are becoming stronger. On April 30,
together with our colleagues from Germany, France, Spain, the USA and Slovakia, we sent a letter to Jeff Bezos demanding that the company
organize work in a way that allows employees to take care of their own health throughout the year, not just during a pandemic and changed
permanent policy regarding standards and breaks. Amazon, which has become extremely rich during the epidemic, must finally make its
employees' health and public health a priority, not an empty slogan.

We did not sit on the Limits initiative during the coronary crisis with our hands folded ---- As part of restrictive measures during the
coronavirus crisis, one could either take a stand sitting idly at home, or somehow get involved in helping others, respond to deepening
problems or just express gratitude to those on the front line. On our website, we have already informed, for example, about support for
nurses , a campaign for non-payment of rent , help for homeless people and protest against their dehumanization, sewing drapes or leisure
solidarity . Earlier anti-authoritarian organizational ties of various groups and collectives proved to be very effective in solidarity
activities. One example is the Limits We Are initiative . ---- Limit activists provided their supplies of veils to paramedics in Brno.
Subsequently, they participated in the co-founding of sewing workshops, where drapes were sewn until now. The intention was to provide veils
mainly to homeless people and field workers, but later it expanded to include the capacity to sew veils for medical staff. On the busiest
days, there were several thousand veils a day. Lots of other people and initiatives were also involved. Then the climate advocates began
going to farms together to help organic farmers. They are severely affected by the drought and it is therefore planned to continue this
assistance. Limits activists also go to volunteer towns for homeless people as volunteers. These places are a completely inadequate solution,

Assistance on eco-farms takes place not only in the vicinity of Brno and in the Vysocina region, but also in the northernmost part of
Bohemia, where, among other things, assistance with establishing a vineyard was useful.

In Prague, climate activists took part in various volunteer initiatives and also donated their disinfection supplies to the Jako doma group
, which provides support to homeless women.

During the Internet, Limits prepared a series of "webinars" on the Internet, through which they share their experience of climate activism
with a wider range of people. The topics of how to set up groups for climate justice, how to organize events and campaigns or how to
cooperate are discussed here. Since the end of April, they have been publishing podcasts "on rebellion and creation" every Wednesday. A
series of interviews called The Rift and its title refers to the theory of John Holloway . An open online plenary of the initiative was held
on Saturday 2 May.

If you want to think about how to promote climate justice in the coming months, and you are tempted to get involved in one of the Limits
working groups, you can come to the plenary in Ostrava, which will take place on 12-14. June.

EVERYONE AND EVERYONE ON THE ROAD - EVERYONE AND EVERYONE IN THE SQUARE OUTSIDE THE EXCLUSIVE BATCHES AND MAFIES ---- Since August 2019,
strong police forces have invaded and settled permanently in Exarchia as an occupying army. Every day, dozens of MAT, OPKE and DELTA
machines parade in the streets, shoot in the corners, sit at the entrances of apartment buildings, trying to spread fear and terrorism in
the neighborhood. All those who live, work, fight, or are patrons of the Exarchates move within a suffocating police cordon and under
constant surveillance and surveillance by hundreds of uniformed and armed government thugs, who further harass residents, shout sexually
threatening women and Nazi slogans to refugees and immigrants show power to youth and youth.
Since then, the state has evacuated militant squatters, self-organized refugee and migrant housing structures, drowned chemical resistance
structures, forcibly removed hundreds of refugees and migrants, women, men and children, and imprisoned them. in concentration camps.

At dawn on Monday, May 18, the state launched another violent evacuation of refugees on Themistocleous Street."Dozens of people, mostly
refugee children, have lost their homes and the little protection they have found. They were transported in cages to Petrou Ralli and then
left nowhere to be left homeless and distressed, without having to go anywhere. They evacuate a refugee camp on the grounds that living
conditions were not adequate (compared to what? With Moria, where people live in tents without access to sanitation?) to end up in
Exarcheion Square a few meters from the occupied occupation " . Occupation of a Shelter for Refugees / Immigrants Notara 26

It was preceded on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, by the exclusion of the Polytechnic, the ban on holding open cinematic assemblies and the bringing
in of at least 12 people from the Polytechnic and the adjacent streets. Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 16, strong police forces attempted to
obstruct the operation of the planned self-organized crowd in Exarcheion Square.

All of these events are expressions of state planning for the subjugation of a neighborhood with a rich history of resistance, a
neighborhood symbol at the international level for the struggles against power, exploitation and oppression.

The state and its repressive army invaded Exarcheia under the orchestrated and hysterical cries of the media propaganda. for the imposition
of the doctrine of "law and order" and under the pretext of drug trafficking and the gigantism of the drug lord of the square. A treaty
formulated methodically by the previous political administration and under the full supervision of the state mechanisms, in order to be a
vehicle for the social legitimization of the overwhelming police intervention that followed - where it did nothing but spectacular
operations against drug addicts - and clearly aimed at the crackdown. of militants and refugees, the expulsion of refugees and migrants and
the transformation of the region from a field of challenge and a base of struggle, into a zone of high capitalist profit let. At the same
time, through the ideological attack that is systematically promoted by the media spokespersons of the Ministry. Public Order seeks to
socially consolidate an "Exemption Regime" for both anarchists and anarchists and many other base fighters and refugees, as well as for
refugees and immigrants in order to socially justify police violence against them. To re-expand the limits of the murderous action of the
security forces beyond where they were set up with the December uprising.

Under conditions of capitalist crisis and pandemic, the state is developing a comprehensive strategy of preventive counter-insurgency in the
face of the risk of uncontrolled social upheavals. In this context, the violent attacks of the police are included, causing very serious
injuries to those who meet in the squares, in Agia Paraskevi, in Kypseli, in Pagrati, in Ano Poli, in order to hit any possibility of
appropriation of public space and social challenge. These attacks are a continuation of the police operations in Exarchia in order to
suffocate every part of the city.

In the gloomy reality that is being erased for those from below this world, let us not succumb to fear and cannibalism. To continue the
fight against the state and capitalist system that imposes poverty, misery and death. To fight for a society that protects the vulnerable,
for a world of equality, solidarity and freedom.
