Dear friends,
There's a common poison out there that has been linked to cancer, infertility, prenancy problems, liver and kidney damage, and respiratory diseases — and it's being sprayed all over our lawns and neighborhoods. It's called glyphosate, and it's a type of pesticide that's often sold under the name RoundUp by Monsanto. And right now, local authorities in St Helens Council, U.K. are subjecting its residents and their animals to this dangerous toxin every time they walk on public land.
Glyphosate can seem like an easy solution to controlling weeds, but the benefits it brings are not worth the costs. Glyphosate is so hazardous that the UN's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a wing of the World Health Organization, has labelled it "probably carcinogenic." When this pesticide is applied to grass and lawns, not only can it rub off on any adult, child, or pet who wanders onto it, but it also seeps down into the community's water table — thereby contaminating an entire population's water supply. Residents of St Helens Council have started a petition urging their leaders to stop using glyphosate and instead commit to non-toxic, eco-friendly solutions. Will you help them?
Thank you for all that you do,
P.S. Tackling weeds doesn't justify poisoning an entire community. Sign the petition by local residents in St Helens Council to help!
