For years, momentum has grown in Japan for an LGBT Equality Act. Japan does not have any national legislation protecting LGBT people from discrimination, which many routinely face.
Japan’s lack of protection for LGBT people fails to meet the requirements of the Olympic Charter, Olympic Agenda 2020 or human rights standards.
We call on Japan’s government to introduce and enact legislation to protect LGBT people from discrimination before the Olympics.
