Dear friends, At a zoo in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, this is what visitors witness: crocodiles kicked, hit, and yanked out of water by their tails. Elephants with massive gaping wounds from bullhooks, beaten and punished into performing circus tricks. And orangutans — some of our closest relatives, a smart, social, self-aware species — forced to fight each other to please paying crowds. It might look silly or funny from the outside, but in reality, this type of treatment is exceedingly cruel. These monkeys are ripped away from their families, whether in the wild or at other zoo facilities. They're placed in tiny enclosures only a fraction of the size of their wild habitats. And then they're dressed up, their hands shoved into human boxing gloves, and placed in a ring to face off. This clearly proves that this zoo is not actually about conservation, but just about getting money from tourists. It's time to shut down this type of cruel, money-hungry institution — starting with this horrific site. Sign the petition to demand that the Cambodian authorities shut down this abusive zoo now! Thank you for all that you do,
P.S. These beings deserve to live out the rest of their days in peace at reputable wildlife sanctuaries, not to be exploited and injured. Sign the petition. |
