repressive intervention, wishing to establish new negative data in its
confrontation with all those who are still fighting, exploiting as a pretext the
health crisis brought about by the dangerous pandemic and its equally dangerous
policy. If the organized revolutionary movement did not raise the gauntlet of
confrontation, the government could occupy the entire public space undisturbed
with the army of occupation of the repressive forces.

At the same time, they would show around like a trophy the ban on the
demonstration (pre-announced by a well-known snitch) in front of the fascists who
are seeking a party representation on a central level.At the same time, the
planning for the occupation of the cities by the police army is in any case a
rehearsal gesture of the strategy for implementing the «preventive insurgency»,
which is a constant dogma from now on of the state-level power mechanism. The
rapid and great weakening of social legitimacy towards the government and, more
generally, state arbitrariness and authoritarianism, has created permanent
emergency conditions for the oppressors. On the other hand, if the organized
anarchist movement and parts of the left dared to break the ban and protest
against the state death policy of totalitarian capitalism, then the government's
opportunities would be shifted towards a narrative that would transfer even
temporarily its criminal responsibility for the death of hundreds of people on
the back of the «irresponsible» protesters, while at the same time, it would be
able to take advantage of the situation in order to abuse and arrest them, to
drain them financially and to isolate them, disbanding them literally but also
-and mainly- politically.

This plan has failed completely. Not one beyond their (ever-decreasing) voters
was convinced by this degeneracy. This is due to the exemplary, responsible and
competitive attitude of the fighters. The government's plan was thrown out by the
movement's action. Instead of squeezing those who broke the vulgar and misleading
junta ban that was only implemented for four days, from November 15th to November
18th, they came out even stronger, more powerful and more consistent in the eyes
of the oppressed and the exploited. Because they were represented by the comrades
who came out on the streets on November 17th, because only their opinion count
for us - and nobody else's. The general ban itself may have created a
stranglehold for those who wanted to break it, but at the same time it has
demonstrated to all progressive people the horrendous instrumentalization of the
pandemic by the poor creatures who manage the fortunes and lives of the people of
the social base. The arrest of dozens of anarchists who tried to take over the
Polytechnic University in Athens, the arrests of leftists and the invitations to
account of militants across the territory, the staged public intervention against
the unions of doctors and other actions which unleashed the crescendo of
repression and which have themselves proved the hypocrisy of state management in
anyone who had the slightest intention of perceiving it.

This time they have also shown up the forces of both the parliamentary and the
extra-parliamentary Left. In our view, their emergence on the basis of previous
experience (e.g. Macedonian rallies on 2018 or even recently at various rallies
in Patras) was not self-evident and there were oscillations about their final
attitude, which also derive from their timeless legal attitude. But if the
left-wing people at the end of the debate weren't left with any other options,
the same would not apply to the Communist Party of Greece. On the one hand, the
intensification of the ban by the government and, on the other, the pressure of
the revolutionary area and anarchists, who had already expressed their intentions
(breaking the ban) and some of their moves (occupation of the Polytechnic School
in Athens) played a part in mobilizing the forces of a number of political entities.

The Greek Communist Party, having first dealt with securing its place in the
civil arena, has protected its back and avoided isolation by first signing a
joint text with the opportunistic bastards of SYRIZA (in the end of October the
Communist Party had voted in favor Tsipra's motion of censure against Stournaras
- an incomprehensible act at the time) - while it was awaiting even in his
signature by the so-called centrist party, Kin.Al (movement of change) who

Across the country, the anarchist movement fought a hard battle and despite the
losses that may arise in real conditions of overall confrontation, it won it.
Nowhere could there be a single half of a propaganda picture of overcrowding and
a lack of measures on the basis of which the magistrates of the powers would try
to disorientate the social body. Instead, the role of state management in the
spread of the pandemic was highlighted even on this day, with the "gathering" of
thousands and thousands of police officers and the suffocation conditions created
in many cases after their intervention. Even so, the two-legged dummies of the
greek police managed to notice their consumable nature as the goons of their
bosses, but their structural stupidity and their non-negotiable fascism allow
them to carry out their criminal duties happily and enthusiastically.

Another point that we must raise is the role of anarchists at this crucial

Every moment of an oppressed person is a crisis. We are born into a crisis that
has been going on for centuries, and this crisis rises at the age when we start
to sell our labor; By hours and days, it continues by selling our lives. Even
life itself turns into crisis, transformed. We always hear the words "the burden
of the crisis"; living becomes a burden for us oppressed. Unpaid invoices, pocket
money that cannot be paid, books that cannot be received, calluses sinking as
they walk, waist twisted by working... Even the university diploma of the
oppressed often turns into a crisis with unemployment. They are all crises and
crises never subsided. ---- Every moment of an oppressed person is a crisis. The
economic crises of the governments are added, but these crises do not develop
involuntarily. The crisis that powers use to grow, gain and exploit more; the
rich get rich, the poor get poor.

Today we are in a crisis again, this time in the corona crisis. Maybe many of us
thought we were in a health crisis, but when the places we worked were closed, we
all faced the fact that the issue was economic for the governments. We learned
that with the new bans announced overnight, cafes, restaurants and bars were
closed and we were unemployed. We learned, but we could not learn why the places
where tens of thousands of us work were closed when everywhere was open.

In the corona crisis, many bans were imposed. And we were among the segments
whose lives were most upset by these prohibitions, as workers working in cafes,
restaurants and bars. It's not just a joblessness. It was said that the money
will be distributed under the name of short work allowance, but to those who have
the appropriate conditions. If our conditions were suitable, that is, even if we
were lucky, we did not know how to meet our needs with the short work allowance
we received. But we knew that the short-time work allowance, which was shown as
grace, was actually covered by the unemployment insurance fund that the state
created by stealing from our salaries for every day we worked. So even when the
state had to reluctantly give us back what it stole from us, it was trying to
make our lives appear to be owed to it.

It was also said that it was forbidden to lay off workers in this crisis. Well,
most of us were already working without insurance... The bosses fired us as they
wanted whenever they wanted. We, the workers of cafes, restaurants and bars, who
were employed without insurance during the corona crisis, were the first to be
discarded. We were not prohibited from firing because we were not "officially"
employed. The experiences of our insured ones were not much different. Because
firing was forbidden, but it was not forbidden to sign a letter of resignation
with the threat of "paying the salary". Can you find any numbers regarding the
workers who resigned from their jobs or were forced to do so? Can any institution
of the state publish data on this? It does not explain because it does not suit
those who exploit us, our labor, our future.

We are in a crisis right now and we don't have five cents piled up in the corner.
Because the money earned daily is spent daily and the money we earn in one day is
not enough to accumulate. Way to go, the food goes, it goes to the phone bill ...

Every moment of an oppressed person is a crisis. So who wants to live with

In the recently published issue of the anarchist magazine Existence, we announced
the preparation of a diary for 2021. Given that the diary for a particular year
is not exactly a timeless publication and the situation is not inclined to find
enough suitable opportunities to distribute a sufficient number by the end of the
year, we decided to postpone its release. The diary has already been ready for
printing, so now we will take care of its redesign for use in 2022. We believe
that next year there will be enough opportunities for those interested to
purchase the diary in advance. ---- The anarchist movement in the Czech Republic
at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries had a strong tradition of publishing
workers' / revolutionary calendars. As a rule, these were graphically very nicely
executed collections of various theoretical, enlightening and literary texts,
which also included poetry. Even today in the world we come across various
diaries from the workshops of anarchist groups. AF with a diary for 2022 wants to
join this tradition. It will be thematically focused on the Spanish Revolution
(1936-1939). In the diary you will find briefly described events that relate to
this important stage of the anarchist movement. All this will be put into context
by a text which, in addition to the then social situation in Spain, also
describes the course of the revolution itself, the functioning of workers'
self-government, the struggle against the enemies of the revolution (fascists and
Bolsheviks) and the engagement of Czech interbrigadists.

In November, Deliveroo and UberEats couriers in Sheffield went out on strike, the
latest instalment in an unpredictable series of flare-ups and disputes that have
broken out in the industry over the last few years. But where does this militancy
come from? Callum Cant's recent book, Riding for Deliveroo, is an excellent
starting point for anyone who'd like to gain a better understanding of the
ongoing class struggle among delivery workers. ---- It could be said that books
analysing contemporary British capitalism through a deep exploration of the daily
routine in specific jobs are like buses, you can wait for ages for one and then
two come along at once. Like the recent Angry Workers book, Class Power on Zero
Hours, Cant's approach is heavily informed by the insights of Italian
workerist/autonomist Marxism, with its focus on workers' self-organisation and
activity. As Cant puts it: "When we are discussing a job, we're also discussing a
specific conflict. It's a conflict between the strategies of resistance developed
by the workers and the system of control developed by the boss... This back and
forth between bosses and workers is the motor of capitalist development."

In contrast to the heaviness of some academic Marxist texts (and, let's be
honest, some academic anarchist texts too), Riding for Deliveroo is a lively and
easily accessible read - it certainly helps if you already know your class
composition from your social reproduction, but Cant is careful to explain any
unfamiliar jargon and the basic concepts he's using.

While the heart of the book is a detailed examination of the experience of
working for Deliveroo and the strikes and militancy that Brighton couriers
engaged in during 2016-17, this book rounds out its relatively short length
(around 180 pages) by considering a number of related issues, such as the way
app-based gig economy platforms have broken with traditional management models,
the impact of piecework pay rates, a history of how dockers and construction
workers have managed to turn their own casual employment into a source of
strength in the past, and a thought-provoking consideration of what Deliveroo
means for its customers. As Cant memorably observes: "What Deliveroo is selling
is the opportunity to take your inability to look after yourself due to
exhaustion, stress, childcare, lack of facilities, skills, and time, etc., and
reinterpret it as a luxury... You're not exhausted, you're enjoying a night in."

One possible area of criticism comes towards the end of the book, where Cant
examines a range of possible futures. His critiques of Deliveroo's vision for
fully automated luxury food delivery, and of the vague suggestions made by
charitable Silicon Valley types about how the industry could be humanised, are
sharp and welcome, but cynical readers may raise an eyebrow at some of Cant's own
suggestions for the future of the industry. The model he suggests of community
food infrastructure under workers' control may sound appealing, but the scattered
references to things like "a renationalized Royal Mail" and "a high-wage
apprentice system" sound less like parts of a revolutionary transformation of
society, and more like items on a shopping list of demands for a fantasy Corbyn
government.

Despite this reservation, Riding for Deliveroo is very clear overall that
"speculations about platform expropriation under workers' control remain
completely utopian if they do not deal with the question of power... That kind of
reorganization of society from the bottom up will only be possible if the working
class overturn the dominance of their bosses through class struggle."

Coming at the tail-end of a historical moment when so many well-intentioned
socialists found themselves sucked further and further into the parliamentary
swamp, Cant's emphasis on the basic truth that "the balance of power on the
streets matters more than the balance of power in parliament" is a welcome one.

Another area where more discussion would be welcome is the subject of hiring
freezes as a demand. This issue was raised in the recent Sheffield couriers'
strike, and was also demanded by one of the Brighton strikes that the book
covers. In Class Power on Zero Hours, the Angry Workers argued strongly against
such demands, seeing them as a step towards the broader divisive logic of
"immigrants taking our jobs". But, of course, it's one thing to make criticisms
from the sidelines, and another thing entirely to persuade a mass meeting of
couriers to change their demands, or indeed to force the bosses into changing
their payment structure away from the piecework model that sets workers so
directly against each other. Hopefully worker-organisers will be able to find
some way forward here.

Overall, Riding for Deliveroo is solidly recommended for anyone wanting a better
understanding of the recent couriers' strikes, the conditions that led to them,
the strategies of the bosses at the sharp end of capitalist development and a
perspective on how those plans can be ruined. Hopefully, it might even provoke
some readers to start writing up notes on their own jobs. To rephrase the method
of workers' inquiry after the model of that old punk diagram: "This is a day at
your job. This is another. This is a third. Now write a book".

The entire city center was occupied early in the morning by the occupying army of
