After 4 years of hate-monger by president Donald Trump, a democratic pro-LGBTQ leader is going to be in the White House. In this episode of PRIDE, Rémy Bonny discusses the expectations of the new Biden-Harris administration for the LGBTQ-movement in Europe with experts. During the Trump presidency, evangelicals supported the president’s administration spent millions of Euros to spread anti-LGBTQ rhetoric in the European Union. Are the American hate campaigns directed towards the European Union going to stop? Will Biden be concerned about the backlashes on LGBTQ-rights in Europe? Rémy Bonny invited Suyin Haynes and Ashton Giese to PRIDE to discuss Biden’s inauguration and what European LGBTQ-activists can expect from the new U.S. administration. Suyin is a senior reporter for TIME and covers gender and culture. Rémy spoke with her earlier when she interviewed him, and other European activists and policy-makers on our expectations of the Biden administration. Read the article in TIME here. Ashton is the senior development officer of Rainbow Railroad. His organisation is helping LGBTQ-people escape persecution and violence around the world. In 2012, he was the communications director for the election campaign of Mark Pocan. Pocan is member for the Democrats of the House of Representatives and currently serves as co-chair of the LGBTQ Equality Caucus in the U.S. Congress.
In the speakers corner of this podcast, Rémy gives the floor to a young queer voice. Anthropology student Siebe Jonckheere answers: Do European queers need to be saved by the Biden administration?
