#WORLDWIDE #UKRAINE #News #Update - Ukraine: New anti-tariff protests

At the end of last week in various cities of Ukraine, despite the cold weather,

protests were again held against the increase in gas and electricity bills. In a
number of places, anarchists and independent social activists took part in the
demonstrations. ---- The protests took place against the backdrop of the decision
of the Ukrainian government (under the pressure of almost universal protests in
January) to temporarily freeze gas prices at 6.99 hryvnia per cubic meter. The
problem is that this "freeze" will be in effect only until the end of March, and
then the price will "freely" creep up again. How the market decides ... ---- In
the Kharkiv region , small actions took place in Zmiyov, in Peresechny, on Peski,
in Lyubotin - 12:30, at the regional administration in Kharkiv and in Chuguev. At
the same time, the 4th blockade of the road since the end of January was carried
out in Peresechnoye. In Chuguev, signatures were collected under an appeal to
those in power.

In Lviv, activists of the anarchist group "Black Flag" picketed the residence of
the National Commission for Regulation of Tariffs for Electricity and Utilities.
At the entrance to the building were attached banners: "Neoliberalism is a
dictatorship of the 21st century. Stop tariff genocide!" The anarchists said the
tariffs were charged as a manifestation of social injustice.

A picket of the regional administration building took place in Zaporozhye .
Characteristically, a pensioner joined the group of anarchist protesters. After
all, it is the retirees who suffer the most from extortionate energy prices.

In Odessa, the ultra-right attacked participants in anti-tariff protests.

In Manganets, Dnipropetrovsk region, people also took part in a protest action.
The rally took place in front of the administration building. The city has been
disconnected from central heating since 2016, and residents have to be heated by
electricity. Therefore, tariff increases hit them especially hard. Elderly people
suffer the most, but the problem concerns everyone.

In general, the activity of the protest this time was noticeably lower than in
January, which, of course, does not mean that people are satisfied with the
policies of those in power. Commenting on the situation, the organizer of the
rally in Marganets, environmental activist Yulia Bond, said for our website:
"Firstly, people's activity is rapidly decreasing. they are there, and they also
get tired of fighting very quickly. And here we were given a one-time
compensation, this also calmed people somehow ... Well, the weather itself was
frosty yesterday "...
