When Enkhjargal Erkhembayar (Enji Erkhem) steps up to the microphone, she playfully masters this apparent balancing act of tradition and innovation. Born in Ulaanbaatar, she belongs to a young generation of Mongolian musicians who find their musical home both in the melancholy, vast melodies of their nomadic ancestors and in such young genres like jazz and blues. As a result, her work exists outside of established archetypes of popular world-music clichés.

In 2016 she recorded her first album 'ENJI - Mongolian Song' in Munich, together with drum legend Billy Hart, Professor Johannes Enders on saxophone, Paul Kirby on piano and Martin Zenker on bass. In the process, she intensively studied the music of Mongolian composer Gonchigsumlaa Sembe. The album was released in 2017 by ENJA Records.

Already in 2016 she was invited with her band to the renowned Koktebel Jazz Festival, where she thrilled the audience and led so far numerous engagements, among others, to South Korea, where she gave guest performances on behalf of the Goethe - Institute. With her own band she has played on numerous stages in Europe and abroad. Among others, Russia, Belgium, Mongolia and South Africa.

Enji recently recorded her second album ''URSGAL'' in Munich, consisting mainly of her own compositions, arrangements, which was freshly released in the last month by Squama Label.

Listening to her, it seems as if it would be a great pleasure to get the chance to merge one's own culture with a completely foreign one. The impression is reinforced when you meet the jazz singer Enji (...), The expression of freshly discovered and happily adapted modernity surrounds her. On top of that she is of a disarming friendliness and naturalness.

Unaffected intensity - The Mongolian singer Enkhjargal Erkhembayar sings with an intensity as if she wanted to embrace the whole world. Who not only has a voice with goosebump effect, but also with recognition value. Enji is one of those singers who effortlessly succeeds in combining content, charisma and music.

Like Ella Fitzgerald singing in Khalkha.
