Dear friends
Just a few days ago, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced a referendum to confirm the country's recent anti-LGBT+ law, which bans all content showing support for the LGBT+ community. The referendum will allow the Hungarian public to vote on whether or not they support the law.
This comes after Hungary has received international backlash for this truly horrific law. The referendum is a crude attempt to avoid any accountability for the human rights violations that will result.
But we aren't having any of it! Now, more than ever, we wanted to make sure our message against Hungary's anti-LGBT+ law couldn't be ignored. So I traveled to Hungary to deliver it on your behalf, straight to the National Assembly Office Building!
Together with our partners at Budapest Pride, we lit up Budapest with rainbow and Hungarian colors and projected a powerful message across the Danube River: "Your referendum is a distraction. LGBT+ rights are human rights."
Check out photos of our massive projected message of defiance and resistance.
The projection also called on the EU to keep up the pressure on Hungary to repeal the anti-LGBT+ law, echoing what over 47,000 All Out members around the world demanded by joining our campaign.
After we launched our campaign, the EU Commission – the executive branch of the European Union – has started legal action against Hungary. But the law is still on the books and the referendum is coming, fanning the flames of homophobia and transphobia.
We need to dial up the pressure. Will you join the fight by signing our petition?
Thanks for going All Out!
