#WORLDWIDE #POLAND #LGBTQ #Gay #freezones #News #Journal #Update - It's us vs. "LGBT-free zones" in Poland

 Dear friends –

I'm Kamil from Nowa Sarzyna, a small, very conservative and homophobic town in Poland.

Growing up in a place like this as an LGBT+ person is incredibly difficult. You have no one to talk to about your sexuality or gender identity. At home, in school, and within your community, you constantly hear that being LGBT+ means living an awful and unacceptable life in sin. So you learn to hide.

But when my hometown declared itself an "LGBT-free zone", I didn't want to hide anymore.

I joined 'Atlas of Hate', a project that maps and monitors "LGBT-free zones" in Poland. By exposing the hate, we hope to contribute to change.

But now, several municipalities are actually suing us just for exposing their hate. They're demanding public apologies and high "retribution payments" that would ruin us financially and destroy years of work.

Help us fight these outrageous lawsuits with your donation.

The picture shows the activists Pulina, Pawel, Kamil and Kuba standing in a group in front of their atlas of hate map Poland: 'Atlas of Hate' under attack. Donate now

The situation of LGBT+ people in Poland is dramatic: Around 65% of young LGBT+ people report they had suicidal thoughts. Only 12% of Polish fathers say they would accept a lesbian daughter or gay son. Coming out almost always means you're going to break ties with your family.

And the government has made things much worse by declaring LGBT+ people "enemies of the state" and by setting up "LGBT-free zones" all over our country.

Our team at 'Atlas of Hate' works hard to change this. But the lawsuits distract us from our work and could mean that we'll have to stop the project. We'll need your support to help get us through this attack.

Donate today to fuel our battle against the "LGBT-free zones"!
