Dear friends,
We're under attack here in Ghana. In February, my group LGBT Rights Ghana had to close our LGBT+ support center after police raided our offices and many of us received death threats. In May, 21 participants of a human rights workshop were arrested for "advocating LGBT+ activities."
And now, a group of politicians has brought forward a bill that would criminalize our LGBT+ community and our allies. Anyone suspected of being LGBT+ could be punished with prison terms of up to 5 years. And advocating for the rights of LGBT+ people could mean up to 10 years in prison.
The bill will be discussed in parliament in the coming months, and we must act now to make sure it never passes.
Sign our petition and ask the authorities to reject the anti-LGBT+ bill.
As LGBT+ Ghanaians, we are already living in fear. Ghana is a deeply conservative country and we have to endure homophobic sentiments spread on local TV and radio stations on a daily basis. The conversations around this bill are further fanning the flames of homophobia and transphobia.
With your support we can show the authorities of Ghana that this harsh and cruel bill has no place in our country. We must remind them that we deserve to exist in freedom and safety, without fear or intimidation in our own country.
Help us make our voices heard. Sign our petition now.
Thank you for going All Out,
David Larbi
