SEVERIN VON ECKARDSTEIN PLAYS F. CHOPIN

First Prize Winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, 2003

Friday 8 October: Severin von Eckardstein

ENGLISH:

Wonderful news!
After one year and a half of forced silence, the Brussels Chopin Days are back with a new season.
Get ready for six live concerts with prestigious names in programs entirely dedicated to Frédéric Chopin.

It is none other than worldstar pianist Severin von Eckardstein that will open this new season.
The pianist won top prizes at the most important piano competitions such as the 'International Piano Competition F. Busoni', the 'International Piano Competition ARD', the 'International Leeds Piano Competition',... but it is since his First Prize at the International Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2003 that it is hard to imagine the pianoworld without his presence.

He performed at the most renowned concert halls such as the 'Concertgebouw Amsterdam', the 'Konzerthaus Berlin', played at various festivals such as 'La Roque d'Anthéron', 'Meesterpianisten', the 'Miami Piano Festival',... and worked with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Jaap van Zweden, Paavo Järvi,..

On Friday 8 October, Severin von Eckardstein is coming to Brussels with a beautifuly varied and challenging program, entirely devoted to F. Chopin.

It are the two Nocturnes, Op. 27 that will break this long silence and form the start of his recital.
Pianist Severin von Eckardstein is known to be a defender of the lesser known repertoire, and this time too, he offers us an original choice playing the 'Romance' of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 11, be it in an arrangement of composer Reinecke.
Hereafter we may hear the Ballade No.  2 Op. 38, followed by two of Chopin's most nostalgic MazurkasOp. 17, No. 4, and Op. 59, No. 1.
He concludes with the majestic Piano Sonata No. 3, Op. 58
This last piano sonata of F. Chopin is one long journey, filled with all elements that Chopin stands for: melancholy, fury, tenderness, and virtuosity.

Curious how that will sound in the hands of this very special artist.

FRANÇAIS:

Grande nouvelle !
