Lieve Climate Express sympathisant,  We hopen dat je genoten hebt van je zomervakantie en nu vol energie zit om mee te doen met onze Ride The Tide actie tussen 6 en 9 oktober! In deze nieuwsbrief kom je meer te weten over de actie en kan je je inschrijven. Bezoek ook onze Ride The Tide website om op de hoogte te blijven van de volgende stappen!

*** Ride The Tide: Wat gaan we doen?  We gaan fietsen langs de toekomstige vloedlijn van België in 2100 en sluiten ons aan bij de nationale actie Back To The Climate! De hele tocht langs de vloedlijn (+- 325km) zal 4 dagen duren (6-9 oktober 2021) en gaat van Poperinge naar Antwerpen. Dit zal gedaan worden door een vaste groep van ongeveer 50 fietsers die zich hiervoor kunnen inschrijven en voor wie wij slaapgelegenheid, catering en bagagetransport organiseren. Op dag 4 stellen we het fietsen ook open voor het grote publiek met een gezinsvriendelijke route voor het laatste stuk: van Sint-Katelijne-Waver (35km) of Hoboken (10km) naar Antwerpen. Op die manier kunnen ook gezinnen en minder ervaren fietsers meedoen.  En voor de fietsers die geïnteresseerd zijn en mee willen doen, organiseert Climate Express een extra fietsdag van Antwerpen naar Brussel om aan te sluiten bij de nationale actie Back To The Climate op 10 oktober.  Wil je meedoen aan de hele actie of een specifieke dag?  REGISTREER NU door op onderstaande knop te klikken!  Doe NU mee met Ride The Tide! *** Waarom Ride The Tide plaatsvindt tussen 6-9 oktober 2021? We willen de aandacht vestigen op de klimaatnoodsituatie ter voorbereiding van:  De Belgische grote klimaatmars Back To the Climate georganiseerd door Klimaatcoalitie in Brussel - 10 oktober Eurotop over klimaatonderhandelingen voorafgaand aan de COP26 - half oktober  De onderhandelingen voor de klimaattop zullen plaatsvinden in Glasgow (COP26) - november *** Waar willen we de aandacht op vestigen? Er zijn heel wat politieke beloften gedaan om onze planeet klimaatpositief te maken en leefbaar te houden voor de mensheid. Maar tot nu toe waren de meeste van deze beloftes alleen op papier, de echte (noodzakelijke) acties zijn onvoldoende om de aarde niet warmer te laten worden dan ruim onder de 1,5°C. Veel mensen denken dat de opwarming van de aarde ons (België) gewoon een lekker, zonnig, zuidelijk klimaat zal geven, en lachen het weg. Want wie houdt er niet van een beetje meer zomer, toch? Het is echter waarschijnlijker dat de opwarming van de aarde ons extremer weer zal brengen, en de zware overstromingen in ons land en in onze buurlanden deze zomer zijn al een rampzalig begin. beeld = overstromingsgevaar langs de kust in België (coastal.climatecentral.org) Deze kaart toont in het rood de delen die naar verwachting in 2100 één (of meerdere keren) per jaar zullen overstromen bij de huidige voorspelde wereldwijde temperatuurstijging van 3°C. Belangrijke delen van de laaggelegen gebieden in de provincies West-Vlaanderen, Oost-Vlaanderen, en in mindere mate Antwerpen en Vlaams-Brabant zullen elk jaar met overstromingen te maken krijgen. We hebben deze zomer echter gemerkt dat het overstromingsprobleem het hele land treft en ook belangrijke delen van Limburg en Wallonië.  We moeten meer mensen bewust maken van het feit dat het niet "ver van huis" is en van de gevolgen die onze burgers kunnen ondervinden. Hoe meer mensen zich bewust worden van de lokale risico's, en hoe meer ze in kaart worden gebracht, hoe meer druk er zal zijn op onze politici.  *** Wat kan jij doen?  Je kan niet alleen deelnemen aan Ride The Tide, maar zelfs helpen als vrijwilliger bij de actie.   Wil je ons helpen met de vele taken voor of tijdens de actie? *** Ride the Tide: qu'allons-nous faire ? Nous allons faire du vélo le long de la future ligne de crue de la Belgique en 2100 et rejoindre l'action nationale Back to Climate !   Le tour complet de la ligne de crue (+- 325km) durera 4 jours (6-9 octobre 2021) allant de Poperinge à Anvers. Il sera effectué par un groupe fixe d'environ 50 cyclistes qui peuvent s'inscrire à cet effet et pour lesquels nous organisons le couchage, la nourriture, le transport des bagages. Le quatrième jour, nous ouvrons également le cyclisme au grand public avec un itinéraire familial pour la dernière partie : de Sint-Katelijne-Waver (35 km) ou Hoboken (10 km) à Anvers. Nous voulons attirer l'attention sur l'urgence climatique en préparation de :  La grande marche belge pour le climat Back To the Climate organisée par Klimaatcoalitie - 10 octobre L'Eurotop sur les négociations climatiques avant la COP26 - Mi-octobre  Les négociations du sommet sur le climat auront lieu à Glasgow (COP26)- Novembre *** Sur quoi voulons-nous attirer l'attention ? De nombreuses promesses politiques ont été faites pour que notre planète ait un climat positif et reste vivable pour l'humanité. Mais jusqu'à présent, la plupart de ces promesses n'étaient que sur le papier, les actions réelles (nécessaires) sont insuffisantes pour empêcher la terre de se réchauffer au-delà de bien moins de 1,5°C. Beaucoup de gens pensent que le réchauffement de la planète nous donnera (à la Belgique) un climat agréable, ensoleillé et méridional, et s'en moquent. Car qui n'aime pas un peu plus d'été ? N'est-ce pas ? Cependant, il est plus probable que le réchauffement climatique nous apporte des conditions météorologiques plus extrêmes et les graves inondations qui ont frappé notre pays et les pays voisins cet été sont déjà un début désastreux. image = menace d'inondation côtière en Belgique (coastal.climatecentral.org) Cette carte montre en rouge les parties qui devraient être inondées une (ou plusieurs) fois par an en 2100 si la température mondiale augmente de 3°C, selon les prévisions actuelles. Des parties importantes des zones de basse altitude dans les provinces de Flandre occidentale, de Flandre orientale et, dans une moindre mesure, d'Anvers et du Brabant flamand, devront faire face à des inondations chaque année. Cependant, nous avons constaté cet été que le problème des inondations touche l'ensemble du pays et concerne également des parties importantes du Limbourg et de la Wallonie.  Nous devons sensibiliser davantage de personnes au fait qu'il ne s'agit pas d'un "loin de chez soi" et aux conséquences que peuvent entraîner nos citoyens. Plus les gens seront conscients des risques locaux, et plus ils seront cartographiés, plus la pression sera forte sur nos politiciens.

Ride the Tide 2021

Dear Climate Express sympathiser,  We hope you enjoyed your summer holidays and are now back fully of energy to join the Ride the Tide action between 6 and 9 October! Ride the Tide: What are we going to do?  We are going to ride our bikes along the future flood line of Belgium in 2100 and join the national action Back To The Climate! The whole flood line tour (+- 325km) will last 4 days (6-9 October 2021) going from Poperinge to Antwerp. It will be done by a fixed group of about 50 cyclists who can register for this and for whom we organise sleeping facilities, catering, luggage transport. On Day 4, we also open the biking to the general public with a family-friendly route for the last part: from Sint-Katelijne-Waver (35km) or Hoboken (10km) to Antwerp. In this way, families and less experienced cyclists can also join.  And for those flood line bikers who are interested and want to join, Climate Express is  organising one extra biking day from Antwerp to Brussels to join the national action Back To The Climate on October 10.  Would you like to participate to the full action or a specific day?  REGISTER NOW by clicking on the button below!  Join Ride the Tide NOW! *** Why Ride the Tide is happening between 6-9 October 2021? We want to raise the attention on the climate emergency in preparation of:  The Belgian big climate march Back To the Climate organised by Klimaatcoalitie – October 10  The Eurotop on climate negotiations before the COP26 – Mid October  The climate summit negotiations will take place in Glasgow (COP26)- November *** What do we want to draw attention to?  A lot of political promises have been made to make our planet climate-positive and keep it liveable for mankind. But until now, most of these promises were only on paper, the real (necessary) actions are insufficient to keep the earth from warming higher than well below 1.5°C. Many people think that global warming will just give us (Belgium) a nice, sunny, southern climate, and laugh it off. Because who doesn't like a little more summer? Right? However, it is more likely that global warming will bring us more extreme weather and he severe flooding in our country and in our neighbouring countries this summer is already a disastrous start. image = coastal flood threat in Belgium (coastal.climatecentral.org) This map shows in red the parts that are expected to flood once (or several times) a year in 2100 at the current predicted global temperature increase of 3°C. Important parts of the low-lying areas in the provinces of West Flanders, East Flanders, and to a lesser extent Antwerp and Flemish Brabant will have to deal with floods every year. However, we have noticed this summer that the flood problem affects the entire country and also affects important parts of Limburg and Wallonia.  We need to make more people aware of the fact that it is not a "far from home"  and those consequences our citizens may entail.
