Press release from the Permanent Secretariat of the CGT of Catalonia ---- The CGT
of Catalonia defends the self-determination of all the peoples of the world. Wedefend it for Kurdistan, for the Mapuche people, for Palestine and for any other
people that recognizes itself as such and wants to exercise it. We also defend it
for the Catalan people, for any of the other nations of what is currently the
Spanish State and, in short, any community that freely so desires. ---- However,
the self-determination we advocate is totally incompatible with the
self-determination that political institutions and organizations are trying to
sell us in what has been called the Process in recent years. For "processism"
self-determination is voting by answering a binary question of YES or NO in
elections that are made once and for all. Outside of them, the people whom these
organizations claim to represent cease to have a voice, cease to have a real
capacity to influence day-to-day life, and become a passive subject.
That is why the self-determination that we defend the CGT of Catalonia,
necessarily implies that the people, that is, the workers, have the real capacity
to define how we want our day to be. As we want it to be the economic model. As
we want it to be mobility, health, education and other public services . What we
want is the logic of relationship between people and our form of political
participation. How we want to redistribute the wealth produced by our work and
how we want to exist on a planet increasingly threatened by the greed of capitalism.
The self-determination we advocate is real and is intrinsically linked to
self-management. It is a self-determination that necessarily implies that
people's lives are fully independent of capitalism and its laws. It therefore
demands the destruction of capitalism and the construction of an alternative that
structures collective life . It means, then, innovating and creating ways of
organizing that do not repeat the logic of states, structures that destroy
freedom, are based on repression and impose on most people the renunciation of
their ability to do politics. in favor of professional policy.
This September 11, like the rest of the year, year after year, the CGT of
Catalonia defends a self-determination that is self-management. We do this as an
organization of workers and anarcho-syndicalists, as we are convinced that it is
inseparable from our revolutionary project. And we do it, too, from day to day.
That is why we oppose the expansion of El Prat airport, because we propose an
economic and leisure model that is not based on the monoculture of tourism . That
is why we also fight against the interests of the employer. An employer that
lowers real wages, increases our working day, fires us and puts our job security
at risksparing protection measures (or directly suppressing them). That is why we
also fight against the different governments and institutions, both in Catalonia
and in the State and in the European Union, and of those who support them. All of
them govern based on the interests of the employer and against those of the
majority of society, as evidenced by the impunity they have given to large energy
companies to plunder our lives.
The defense of freedom, self-determination and self-management involves building
and strengthening spaces in which to exercise it on a daily basis. We call on all
workers to organize in the union . We call on all residents to strengthen the
autonomous social movements of the institutions. Only in this way will we be able
to move towards a free society made up of free people.
