In this week that marked the Day of Struggle for the Decriminalization and
Legalization of Abortion in Latin America and the Caribbean, on September 28,when 150 years of the Free Belly Act are also completed, let us not forget that
the struggle for women and girls to have access to their reproductive rights is
also a class and race struggle! The ban on abortion does not prevent abortions
from happening, it criminalizes, marginalizes and kills women who have abortions,
and the vast majority of these women are black, poor and peripheral.
As specific anarchists, we understand that the fight for legal, safe and free
abortion must be addressed through a public health path, and the fight for
reproductive rights must be thought of in conjunction with the fight for the
right to abortion. If we stop regulating reproductive freedom, the right to
legal, safe and free abortion, the right to our bodies, we risk losing or
renouncing other rights. This is what we have seen happen in the last steps of
the state and the Bolsonaro government, with the advancement of agendas that
violate women and girls, and threaten their already conquered reproductive
rights. The "Birth Day" and "Life Week" bills are already being developed and
voted on in the chambers. In addition to their unconstitutionality, they mark
another step in the criminal and conservative policy of the state.
Reproductive rights imply the right to abortion, but they are also related to
broader rights such as: the right to prenatal care, family planning with
professional support, preventive medicine, psychological support, public crèches,
sex and reproductive education education accessible in schools and universities.

against gender inequality.
Abortion happens daily in Brazil, the criminalization of abortion does not
prevent women from having an abortion, it supports a reality in which it happens
in precarious and life-threatening situations for these women. The end of the

In early September, the prefect of Fortaleza sanctioned Law 11.159 / 2021 which
created the "Week for Life", with the aim of promoting lectures, seminars and
campaigns against the use of contraceptives and abortion, and the application of

difficult access of women to contraceptive methods and sexual and reproductive

campaigns against abortion, including against situations that are already
foreseen in law, as in the case of women and girls raped, pregnant women at risk
of death and in the case of anencephalic fetuses. In addition, this PL intends
that campaigns be carried out in schools, health posts and other public spaces,
articulating campaign actions of the municipality of Maceió with Churches,
promoting religious preaching within schools and other public spaces, thus
undoing the separation between State and Religion, attacking the Secular State,
attacking the principle of priority in protecting children and adolescents from
violence, abuse and sexual exploration.
It is not today that we face the religious discourse that contaminates public
policies. The articulation between Damares Alves' ministry, the bible-strewn
bibles scattered around the country, and pro-life conservative movements are
always ready to promote new attacks on the reproductive rights of women and
girls, and little interest in their lives and safety. In addition, women are
forced to face situations of poverty and misery, the difficulty of accessing
services that guarantee dignified lives, quality education, medical care, a
decent home, food and work, and they will see the futures of their children torn

It is ironic that the very state that criminalizes abortion, putting the lives of
thousands of women at risk, is the one that has destroyed black and poor families
in that country. He not only destroyed by misery as he launched his control
troops to withdraw children from their families and throw them into shelters
because of all the mazes of poverty. Never the families of the elite, always the
responsibility of mothers alone in the periphery doomed to live without
sanitation, without public transport, without conditions for the maintenance of
children in school! It creates poverty and criminalizes poverty, breaking family
and community ties. Called crazy, slutty and negligent, it is women, but once
again, who pay by losing their children in a process of privatization of problems
that are public.
We fight for the right to legal and safe abortion, for our freedom, for our
bodies, and for our lives! We fight for the strengthening of public health
policies and for sexual and reproductive education! We fight for sex education to
prevent, contraception to not get pregnant, legal abortion, safe and free not to
die! We fight against the advance of conservatism and right hair to the full life
of all bodies! We fight for an emancipatory gender and sexuality education to
combat gender-based violence and LGBT-phobic violence! We fight for autonomy and
self-management of our bodies! We fight against racist state, capitalism and
patriarchy!
We, specific anarchists, believe that the construction of popular power is part
of our struggle against the oppression of our bodies!
