in Argentina and the impact of its political proposal, we believe, included
several moments and stages, and underwent various strategies of influence over
the last decades. To begin with, it is true that the political approach of
organizational dualism had tried to establish itself in our country at different
times. The first dates from the late nineteenth century, with the emergence of
anarchist circles promoted by Errico Malatesta, Francesco Momo and Ettore Mattei
among others, simultaneously with the founding of the first unions at the local
level. The other outstanding moment was during the 1930s, with the appearance of
the Argentine Anarcho Communist Federation (FACA) and the Spartacus Workers'
Alliance. The militancy of these political organizations had already taken note
of the warning issued by Malatesta decades ago,on the danger of "unifying the
labor movement and the anarchist movement" and on the loss of preponderance of
our political current within the people. But, unfortunately, all these trials,
with the passing of the decades, did not succeed or leave an organizational germ
for the years to come.

However, on the other side of the Río de la Plata, a group of important cadres of
anarchism managed to shrewdly process the difficult historical moment of ebb that
anarchism was experiencing worldwide through the middle of the 20th century. This
political balance and projection gave rise in 1956 - just 20 years after the
defeat in Spain - to the founding of the FAu (Uruguayan Anarchist Federation),
intended as an organizational tool for anarchists, when drawing up a strategy. of
adequate insertion to influence in a certain way in social struggles.

As is known, the constant flow between the Uruguayan and Argentine populations,
and their cultural, political and social influences, have had a special character
throughout history, whose origins even contemplated the same emancipation plan
during the anti-colonial wars. In this sense, what happened in Uruguay with the
reconfiguration of organized anarchism would sooner or later have an impact on
the dynamics of Argentine anarchism.

Since its inception, the FAu has been concerned with the task of rebuilding
organized anarchism in the Southern Cone and Latin America and with the recovery
of the influence of anarchism in the social dynamics of the continent. Argentina
would not be the exception.

The presence of the fAu in Argentina and its attempts to influence the regrouping
of local anarchism can be analyzed in different stages. The first of them occurs
from the public appearance of the organization, during the convulsed decades of
the 50's and 60's. At that time, based on the stories of Juan Carlos Mechoso - a
founding member of FAu, there were trips and encounters between the FAu and
anarchist militants from Argentina, without any political project being carried
out at the local level, beyond undertaking some common editorial project. . It is
valid to emphasize that a large part of Argentine anarchism at that time was in a
frank decline, more concerned with differentiating itself from Peronism than with
fighting the successive military riots and dictatorships.

The next stage marks the presence of fAu in Argentina, more for reasons of
context. First, with the migration of young union cadres from the ROE, who ended
up converging in Resistencia Libertaria -the main anarchist political
organization in Argentina at that time, with influence in some unions and social
spheres-. But after the coup d'état of '73 and the abrupt repressive advance in
Uruguay, the fAu defined a strategic retreat to the neighboring countries, with
Argentina being the one with the highest reception of the organization's
militants. Thus, members of the OPR (armed tool of the FAU) are the first to
cross into Argentina in order to promote actions to achieve "the economic means
for a fight against the dictatorship that is expected to be long and lasting.".
The slogan of that time was "last fighting . " The advent of the '76 coup in
Argentina found dozens of militants carrying out organizational and coordination
work against the repressive advance and the Condor Plan. However, the tenor of

With the return to constitutional order in the region, fAu once again expressed

Here it is important to highlight some fundamental aspects that marked the
presence of fau in Argentina and its political influence. First of all, we
emphasize that this has occurred within the framework of a Latin American
strategy, based on a reading not only of an internationalist anarchism and the
ties that peoples have had for thousands of years, but also from a reading of the
reality of the system of domination. that since colonization has established
mechanisms of plunder and subjugation specific to this region. This means that
our political current is not reflected in isolated organizational expressions but
inherently regionally articulated.

On the other hand, until the arrival of the Tucuman and Santa Cruz organizations,
the main area of roots of specificity had been in the Pampas region (possibly due
to similarities with the history and social composition of Montevideo). Here we
note that although Argentina presents a diverse social formation, which requires
a different deployment of the strategy, the specific political proposal allows

This diversity poses a challenge for the construction of organized anarchism in
our country, but we are convinced that this will further enhance this current,
providing it with new elements when it comes to combating domination in its
various forms.

Another highly relevant aspect has to do with the fact that the FAu experience
and the legacy of its political matrix come to make up for cuts or absences of
anarchism in Argentina during the second half of the 20th century (with the
exception of RL's experience in the 70s). , helping to restore -at least in part-
historical continuity. The systematization of experiences, the exercise of
historical memory, the meeting and the commitment of the FAU has allowed the
transfer of that precious legacy of anarchism that almost a century and a half
ago took popular roots in this part of the world.

Finally, the methodological transmission of part of the fAu militancy to the
comrades in Argentina has not been anything less. Beyond any postulate or series
of principles; the forging of a militant style characterized by being humble and
respectful of the processes of popular organizations; supportive and committed to
the causes of our class; disciplined and patient regarding the times of building
a strong people; they are always a guide in our daily task as well as in
reflection on the practice that we collectively approach.

Likewise, and no less important, the series of elements of organized anarchism
have been props for the beginning of local political organizations, such as the
need for an action program, an organic charter, a strategy of insertion, growth
and accumulation, as well as a political structure, or the necessary analysis of
local and regional social formation. All these elements in constant interaction
with our daily actions in social organizations have allowed us to multiply our
militancy, to grow firmly with respect to our influence and to project ourselves
in a serious way in the long term.
