Comrades from the Vienna Workers 'Syndicate (WAS-IAA, section of the
International Workers' Association in Austria) inform about the current laborconflicts with their participation. While the official Austrian trade union ÖGBin tariff negotiations agrees to raise wages below the inflation rate (formetalworkers - less than 3%, for hairdressers - 1.4%), anarcho-syndicalists arecurrently fighting in seven places. ---- One of the conflicts was caused by asituation in which a former employee found himself, from whom his former bossunlawfully demanded compensation for a broken car - in the amount of two months'wages. WAS demanded that the firm waive the demand and is ready to help theemployee defend his rights in court.A few weeks ago, the Anarcho-Syndicalists were approached by two Zwettl cleaningladies who had been brought from Southern Europe. They also demand a lot of moneyfor damaged equipment. Comrades from WAS found out that the workers were not paidbonuses, vacation pay, and overtime pay. The anarcho-syndicalists demanded arecount from the owners, taking into account these debts, and are preparing ademonstration in Tsvettla if their demand is not met.Contacts established with laborers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, who workin one of the hotels in Waldviertel, made it possible to establish that theysuffer from poor working conditions. For the past 4 months, they have been forcedto work 11 hours a day, although they were paid only 40 hours a week. The hotelalso does not receive any bonuses at the end of the year. WAS contacted comradesfrom the Slovak section of M.A.T. (RA), so that they help to explain themselvesin the language of workers. Anarcho-syndicalists are ready to support them,although they are not members of their organization.The largest of the weaving conflicts takes place at the world-famous ViennaKunsthaus. 8 employees of the museum, who for 5 years had to work in conditionsthat did not meet the statutory labor standards, organized a group and receivedthe support of WAS. The anarcho-syndicalist trade union has already held itsfirst almost two-hour meeting with the administration and discussed the problemsthat have arisen (readiness on duty, surcharges, false instructions during thelockdown, etc.). It is also about an amount of over 8,000 euros per year and peremployee. The comrades hope that the conflict will be resolved at this stage,without additional pressure measures. It is important that the current laborcollective is in solidarity with the former employees and supports them.The next story is related to the aftermath of the May Day demonstration. Duringthe action, a WAS member was handed a notice of a fine for an alleged violationof anti-epidemic restrictions. In total, such accusations were brought againstall 450 participants in the demonstration. With the support of the trade union,the comrade intends to defend his case in court.The next conflict arose in a waste transportation company, where the rights ofworkers were not respected. So, for example, the work schedule for the day wasreported literally the day before, there was no payment for overtime work.
