RBC Bank is the fifth most polluting financial institution in the world andthe first in Canada, including investments in the CGL pipeline which is supposedto cross the unceded territory of the Wet'suwet'en Nation."More and more people accept that we should talk about 'climate emergency'. Yetthis urgency is not felt when key institutions like RBC Bank continue to investin fossil fuels. RBC is the fifth largest donor to the climate crisis. It isslowing Canada down in its climate efforts and we want everyone to know that. RBCcan no longer hide. Today, actions are taking place in 40 cities across Canada as well asin Germany, France, England, Australia and the United States to demand that largefinancial institutions stop investing in fossil fuels..Activists denounce the hypocrisy of the RBC bank which on the one hand promotesgreenhouse gas reduction as well as the rights of indigenous peoples, and on theother invests in fossil fuels on unceded land - such as in the case of CGL andthe Wet'suwet'en. They demand that RBC stop investing in fossil fuels first, andthat the bank require the free, prior and informed consent of the nationsconcerned before funding any project located on Indigenous lands.The banner symbolizes the Grizzly Bear from the Gidim't Clan of theWet'suwet'en Nation defending itself against the RBC Lion. Indeed, theCGL gas pipeline in which RBC invests crosses the territory occupied by thisnation and which it has never ceded. The work on which the banner is inspiredwas made in collaboration with the peoples concerned."Extractivism is a complex issue.
