Demonstration against working conditions at the Leipzig franchisee of "Domino's
Pizza" ---- On Sunday noon, November 7th, 2021, the Free Workers Union (FAU)Leipzig held a demonstration in front of a Domino's branch on Shakespeare-Platz.The reason for this was given by the unpaid wage claims of former employeesagainst the Effekt GmbH, as well as intimidation attempts on the part of themanagement due to union involvement. Around 150 people gathered in front of theDomino's Süd store on Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse to show their solidarity with thedelivery drivers at Domino's. They demanded that their outstanding claims bepaid. The rally started at 2:30 p.m. and ended at 4:00 p.m." Shame on Domino's!"For example, the former employees demand their money back for the "tour money"deducted from the minimum wage, the deposit for their work clothes and theirclaims from default of acceptance. The management did not respond to a letterdated October 13, 2021. That is why the demonstrators are now publicly callingfor the money to be paid out to those affected at last. The drivers who are stillemployed demand that Effekt GmbH comply with applicable labor law in the future."Shame on Domino's!" The crowd chanted over and over again. The labor dispute over the pizza supplier comes to a headThe current labor dispute is not the first this year. There were already protestsagainst the pizza delivery giant in June when a driver was fired aftercampaigning for free corona rapid tests to be provided in the workplace. Thedriver was only hired again after massive pressure from colleagues and FAULeipzig on Effekt GmbH. Labor disputes against delivery services have recentlyoccurred across Germany, such as at Durstexpress about a year ago or the strikeof the Gorillas Workers in Berlin a few weeks ago. Today's demonstrationrepresents another high point in the struggle for better working conditions inthe supply industry. "We are currently building a new and powerful union movementfrom below.Targeted harassment against union membersThe demonstrators also accuse the employer of targeting union members in order toget rid of them. Organized delivery drivers were randomly moved to other branchesand were allocated far fewer working hours per week than contractually agreed. Inaddition, for incomprehensible reasons, they were warned by the management andslandered in front of their work colleagues. At the demonstration they report ontheir daily experiences: "We consider the way our employers deal with our ownemployees to be scandalous and therefore we are addressing the public," said onedelivery driver. "Union busting, ie the smashing of trade unions and theundermining of legal minimum standards, is unacceptable," said another driver,Press contact:Phone: (+49) 0178/149 4224Email: presse.leipzig@fau.orgWebsite: leipzig.fau.orgTwitter: @FAU_Leipzighttps://leipzig.fau.org/pm-shame-on-dominos-gemeinsam-gegen-ausbeutung-in-der-lieferbranche/#more-1433_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
