In the early hours of Wednesday, February 19, 2020, we intervened in the building
of the metropolis of Thessaloniki, throwing paint on the building and the bustsof the former metropolitans, writing slogans and throwing threes. Two comradeswere arrested shortly after the intervention was completed and charged withdamaging foreign property and insulting symbols of sacred importance, to whichwas added the disobedience, due to the refusal of those arrested to participatein the marking process. ---- This symbolic intervention took place in response tothe dark event on the Prespa agreement, "illegal immigration", and the"demographic" organized by 22 Christian associations with the blessing of theDiocese of Thessaloniki at the Vellideio Conference Center of Thessaloniki onFebruary 16, 2020. of this event were directly related to the promotion of racistand anti-immigrant hatred, nationalism and the devaluation of femaleself-determination and dignity. The church, an organization of mass influence andmanipulation, organized a central event that concentrated all the peaks that makeup the conservative and reactionary arc that acts as a brake against anyattempted social progress and liberation direction. Such an event obviously posesan aggressive challenge to a large section of society. It undermines andundermines conquests and claims, sets conditions that must be counted, and havebeen counted for decades as self-evident and inalienable, such as that of freeabortion. Our action took place in a total storm of reactions triggered by thisevent and the related, supportive statements of clergy at that time.We stand unequivocally on the side of the struggles of women, lgbtqia + people,immigrants, the poor and the oppressed. Any attempt by the mechanisms of power tostrike at the interests and needs of the oppressed will find us opposed. This isexactly what we wanted to say with the intervention we made. This is what we willcontinue to do.At a time when abuses and murders of women are increasing alarmingly, with femalehomicides reaching 14 in 2021, while thousands of immigrants are being stacked inconcentration camps, drowned in the Aegean and illegally and inhumanelyrepatriated and inhumane, the state of the authorities sit in the chair forsymbolic interventions, for simple participation in demonstrations, for overtconspiracies, all over Greece. These are, of course, the mechanisms of a systemthat itself promotes and methodically imposes division, alienation andcannibalism in the oppressed classes, either in the form of racism / nationalismor in the form of patriarchy, in order to reproduce and perpetuate itself. Thesemechanisms, which systematically perpetuate and perpetuate social injustice,oppression and exploitation, are now seeking the punishment of our comrades whoare fighting in practice and selflessly against any power for freedom, equality,solidarity and social justice. We are in solidarity with each of them, whatevermeans of struggle they choose, wherever they are in the world.On Tuesday, the day that the two comrades are being tried for this intervention,we call for a solidarity rally outside the Thessaloniki Courthouse. We will notleave our comrades alone.
