Everyone's worried nowfor the fate of democracy, tried by a thousand difficulties
that are making it retreat on planet earth. The most worried of all seems to bethe president of the United States of America, Joe Biden, who to help her hassummoned, for a consultation on her state of health, the most authoritative ofhis representatives, 110 between heads of state and government, chosen with care(but not too much), excluding those who are notoriously adverse to the rules ofthe majority and the protection of minorities: Russia and China in the lead. Thusthe Summit for Democracy took place on 9 and 10 December last, a videoconferencesummit in which Biden, admitting that even in the United States democracy is notreally well, emphasized the need to act to defend it in a moment historicallydecisive. For this reason it has announced the allocation of 424, 4 milliondollars in foreign aid, a project called Presidential Initiative for DemocraticRenewal to support independent media, the fight against corruption, freeelections. So from the bombs to export democracy it seems to have passed to cashincentives, but the American dad always thinks about it, even if the arms-moneyintertwining is not so easy to untangle, as we can continually see. Our SuperMario also naturally intervened at the summit and declared: "Italy reaffirms itscommitment to strengthen and protect human rights, especially in favor of themost vulnerable. We have established national action plans to further promotegender equality and social inclusion. And to combat all forms of intolerance anddiscrimination, including those based on sexual orientation ". As is amplydemonstrated, for example, by the end of the Zan proposal! However, we arecertain, Draghi said, that our democracies have been "up to" the pandemic challenge.Despite the profuse effort , the Biden operation did not have the desired effectand many comments, including Italians, have grasped its instrumental nature, within the geopolitical game between competing regimes. An article that appearedin Limes is very explicit: "The summit did not produce any concrete measures .Rather, it served Washington to catalyze the consensus of the satellites of theAmerican empire and attract potential partners. So as to hit first of all theability of the People's Republic to influence abroad and to a lesser extentRussia, Iran and Turkey. That is, of the powers that currently represent a threatto American interests in Eurasia. "However, the fundamental question is which democracy states, governments, political forces and intellectuals "of the democratic West" think they have topreserve from the advancement of autocracies, even if they want to believe intheir good faith. Representative liberal democracy has been marking time for somedecades, the global economic crisis of 2007/08 has accentuated all its limits, but it is still a form of government that even in its great golden season, theone that followed at the end of the Second World War, it turned out to be a formof domination by the elites, capable of controlling societies through a mix, byno means perfect, of force and persuasion. Nor is it necessary to use analyzesand studies, which there are, to prove this; it is enough to take a quick look atthe recent past to realize what democracy has been like in the West. For Italy, the multiple massacres that have bloodied it from 1947 onwards are sufficient. This is the democracy for which governments and right-thinking people arestruggling so much today, that even when they admit that ours are imperfectdemocracies and are committed to making them better, they are making yet anotherfalsification, once again to keep hold of dominance. At the beginning of 2020 , a study by the US NGO Freedom House circulated ,repeatedly taken up by the press and commentatorswhich since 1941 "has beenmonitoring the progress of liberal democracy in the world, through a battery ofindicators ranging from freedom of the press to the independence of thejudiciary, as well as free elections, of course". This study confirms thatdemocracy is retreating even in "advanced" countries, Europe would beparticularly in the balance, the cases of Hungary and Poland are emblematic.Nothing surprising though, as we know; the surprise may arise when one takes acloser look at the democracy smuggled by such organizations. As for Italy, thestudy states that: "The anti-liberal politicians have shifted the terms of thedebate and won the elections by promoting a national identity of exclusion as ameans for the masses to cling to a changing global and internal order". True, butof a superficial truth, for which following this scheme we would have in theDemocratic Party, in Forza Italia and other similar ones the staunch defenders ofdemocratic values, while Lega and Movimento 5 S would have the advanced points ofan antidemocratic drift. In short, the perfect alibi to save structures andinstitutions whose democracy is a mask to wear for any occasion. To reveal theinstrumentality and falsity of the debate on the fate of democracy is also anarticle in the Post, dating back to 2014, which takes up a special from TheEconomist, in which there are statements of this kind: "Although we happen toabuse the term" democratic ",[...]a democracy is technically a system ofgovernment in which all citizens are allowed to vote to determine the decisionsof the community. But since this alone does not guarantee an effective andcorrect system of functioning of democracies, we also associate them as essentiala series of guarantees and freedoms: controls and limits on the powers of thosewho govern, freedom of speech and association, protection of minorities and theirchoices.[...]If until today democracy has been an aspiration of millions ofpeople and many peoples who do not enjoy it, it is because data and history saythat democracies are on average richer, are less involved in wars and are moreable to fight corruption, and offer their citizens freedom and opportunities forthemselves and their children.[...]. " Between obviousness and absurdity, in thisway the "de noantri" democracy is propagated, the one that is on the right side,of the free and open West. Therefore it can be concluded like this: what is moredemocratic than a democracy that talks about itself? Even if, in a Gattopardianway, every effort is aimed at keeping everything as it was before.Angelo Barberihttp://www.sicilialibertaria.it/2022/01/10/il-migliore-dei-mondi-possibili/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
