that there is today in France a real underlying tendency for fascist temptation.
On the other hand, the result of Jean Luc Mélenchon, important as it is, shows
that the reformist left has for the moment failed in its bet to bring together
again the popular classes and the aspirations of equality and freedom in its
bosom. . The high abstention rate of 26.%, showing a strong decline in belief in
institutions, should not be seen as positive data for the revolutionaries: it
indicates much more despair than rallying to libertarian abstentionism. Politics.
This same desperation affects the weak belief in collective action that
grassroots activists observe every day.
We know that whatever the outcome, the five-year period ahead will probably be
the most violent for our class that our militant generations have known. On the
one hand, Macron's antisocial and authoritarian project and his recent
declarations have the merit of being clear. The liberal bourgeoisie is preparing
for the already well-started looting of our social gains. Its various promises
concerning the status of teachers, the forced labor of RSA beneficiaries,
retirement at 65, apprenticeship at 12 and the SNU announce the militarization of
society and the killing of what remains of socialism in France. The appointment
under his five-year term of ministers close to the far right, the dissolution of
organizations fighting against racism or anti-fascist action groups do not bode
well for the future. No one is safe and the fight will be tough.
On the other hand, the assumed fascism of Eric Zemmour should not make us forget
that Marine Le Pen is also a fascist candidate. Its reactionary project means the
decline of the rights of women, LGBTI, and ever more repressive violence against
exiles and displaced persons. Its social veneer crumbles at the first scratch
because the reactionary bourgeoisie makes fun of the rights of workers and the
proposals made to the working classes are poisoned gifts: the reduction in social
security contributions is the death of our social model and solidarity in France.
Whatever the outcome, we should have no illusions. The far right and ultra
liberalism will not be stopped by the ballot box. This is not the time for
settling individual or collective scores. At the Union Communiste Libertaire, we
believe that we should not oppose those who voted or will go and vote heartbroken
to block the election of a fascist, and those who did not couldn't resolve it or
we won't be able to resolve it for this second round. The time is therefore not
for progressive and revolutionary activists to accuse each other of having caused
the failure of this or that leftist candidacy. On the contrary, it is time to
organize resistance and build unity. This unity does not consist of electoral
agreements, but must take place at the base. In the unions, between unions and
trade union confederations, in all checks and balances. It must also take place
between the progressive and revolutionary structures and organizations whose duty
is to work, together and without dogmatism, for the construction of unitary and
massive anti-fascist frameworks.
The responsibility of each and everyone in the period is to invest massively in
organizations for the defense of the popular classes, the exploited and the
oppressed. Trade unions, feminist and LGBTI organizations, anti-racist
organizations, structures for the defense of the poorly housed, are today the
last checks and balances which, by their mass character, will allow us to avoid
the barbarity that the capitalists promise us.
Here are our instructions for the second round and the next five years: get
organized! Unionize! If you recognize yourself in our project, get closer to the
groups of the Union Communiste Libertaire. The next five years will be difficult
but we will not let anyone say that we have lost. The ecological emergency
demonstrates it: we have no time to waste. So let's organize ourselves, let's
structure ourselves, and together let's reverse the balance of power. It is now
up to us.
For anti-fascist unity! For the organization of the popular classes! For a
radical change of society!
