On the evening of March 21 we learned of the death of Yvan Colonna. This death
follows a violent assault in prison. Condolences and support to his entirefamily; Condolences and support to his entire family. ---- Since March 2,autonomous or pro-independence demonstrations and mobilizations have taken placein Corsica, supported in the Basque Country or Brittany. On Sunday, March 13, ademonstration was held in Bastia, a week after Corti's. Again, more than 10,000Corsicans were on the streets. This massive and popular mobilization is widelysupported, even during the most offensive moments. The violence of the protesters was made inevitable by the strategy of the tensionof the French state. All the mobilizations, including those of the high schoolstudents, were systematically suppressed by the police. The French imperialiststate chose violent retaliation, a choice that has already caused many injuries, especially among young people. We support the injured. This choice of repression is detrimental to all. Progress has been made. AlainFerrandi and Pierre Alessandri's Detained Particularly Surveillance (DPS) statuswas lifted on March 10. These advances were achieved by the legitimate responseof the Corsican independence activists. Finally, the Home Secretary came to theisland from March 16-18. Again, the French state shows that the only language itunderstands is that of the balance of power. Thus, although the FLNC laid downits arms in 2014 and the pro-independence coalition won a majority in theCorsican Assembly in 2015, it was only as a result of the clashes that the statefinally chose to open negotiations. The latter must have been historic. Mostpro-independence and pro-autonomy political parties have chosen not to ratify thefinal text, which is deemed insufficient. They decided to continue the mobilization. The state sets the return to calm as a precondition for any negotiation. Yet onthe evening of Yvan Colonna's death, mobile gendarme units and the GIGN weredeployed on the island. The message is clear. Last provocation to date, that ofCRS singing La Marseillaise during a barbecue, on the very day of Yvan Colonna'sfuneral and while the whole island was in mourning! The French state is ready to continue the use of repression and the strategy oftension. The political responses are obviously inadequate. The popular base ofthe mobilization rejected the negotiation process. The state will have to take onthe escalation of violence, especially in the event of a return to armed struggle. We recall our support for Yvan Colonna's family in their ordeal. We support theirdemand for justice and truth. We support the demand for a rapprochement on the island of political prisoners. The question of an amnesty must be asked as soon as possible to allow for a realand peaceful debate. We recall our support for the self-determination of the peoples, in Corsica aseverywhere. The Libertarian Communist Union, March 28, 2022.https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Statu-francese-assassinu-pour-une-solution-politique-en-Corse_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
