small settlements. The Russian Federation continues to bomb Ukrainian cities,
from the territory of Ukraine it periodically arrives in the border regions of
Russia: officially, the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not take responsibility for
these attacks. Ukraine continues to shell separatist areas of Donbass. Under
unclear circumstances, an important research institute of the RF Ministry of
Defense burned down in Tver. Forms controlled administrations in the occupied
territories of the Russian Federation.

There is no end in sight to the war, who will emerge victorious and what the
conditions of peace will be - it is too early to predict yet. So today let's talk
about a couple of current trends.

Dehumanization of Russians
After the liberation of the regions of the northern regions of Ukraine from the
occupation and the revealed stories of massacres, robberies and rapes arranged by
"denazifiers", the idea of "abolishing Russian culture" is gaining popularity.
That the Russians are "orcs", that the Russians are collectively to blame for the
attack on Ukraine. Putin was not overthrown in time, and they allegedly massively
support the "special operation".

All this is nonsense.

Recall that the world system of colonialism collapsed less than 100 years ago. I
will not list what the colonialists did in Africa, Asia and America. But
according to this logic, it would be necessary to "cancel the culture" of almost
all of Western Europe. But no one in their right mind suggests doing this. On the
contrary, the culture of Western Europe is currently a key component of world
culture.

Whether what happened in the north of the Kyiv region was a conscious order, or
mass insanity of soldiers against the backdrop of permissiveness, violence, fear,
as well as the lack of clear explanations from the command why the Russian army
entered Ukraine at all, remains to be seen.

But Tarkovsky, Vasnetsov, Tchaikovsky and Lermontov are definitely out of
business here. It is much easier to lose the human face than it seems, and it
does not depend on how many books you have read and what films you have watched.

Yes, Ukraine is on the defensive. Yes, many anarchists have joined the Ukrainian
territorial defense - and this is an absolutely understandable choice. But
Ukraine is one of the warring states with its own propaganda system. Any posted
audio recording of (allegedly) interception of a telephone conversation between a
Russian soldier and his relatives cannot be considered real. Maybe real, maybe
fake. At the very least, Ukrainian military propaganda is purposefully working to
dehumanize Russians, we should not forget about this.

War crimes did not start in 2022. Since 2014, the separatist territories of
Donbass have been massively shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shelling
leads to the death of civilians. The separatists have also shelled the territory
of Ukraine all these years. People suspected of links with the separatists in
Ukraine and with Ukraine in the separatist territories were subjected, among
other things, to extrajudicial executions.

Naturally, this is absolutely no excuse for Putin's attack. But the territorial
integrity of states for us, anarchists, is important only in the context of
maintaining peace. The territorial integrity of states has no independent value.

Do the Russians support an attack on Ukraine? No data. Considering the criminal
article with a penalty of up to 15 years for anti-war statements, even the polls
of the Levada Center on this subject can hardly be called representative. It is a
fact that there are few cars with "Z" or "V" stickers on the streets. Yes, and
they regularly spoil or set fire - this is according to the Ministry of Internal
Affairs.

Do Russians trust Putin? Unfortunately, for many, the credit of trust in him has
not been exhausted. In general, people's attitudes towards Putin and his policies
are complex and multifaceted. Positive perception of Putin is gradually declining.

The fact that Putin has not yet been overthrown is not the fault, but the
misfortune of the Russians. Almost any realistic scenario for change in Russia is
precisely the collective action of Russians to overthrow Putin. This is not a
question of today, but we very much hope that tomorrow.

It is quite possible to understand those who want to emigrate from Russia simply
because it is disgusting to live here now. Especially if you are being
persecuted: emigration is better than a pre-trial detention center and a colony
in every sense. But shit won't clean itself up, so respect for those who stay in
Russia.

Summarize. Can Russia be called Mordor? Yes. Can Russians be called orcs?
Absolutely not.

P.S. Russians who did not overthrow Putin are very conveniently blamed for the
war. And the EU establishment is definitely not to blame? Before the war, the EU
was Russia's main trading partner and had cooperation, including through the sale
and purchase of military technologies. Has the Ukrainian establishment been
looking for options for the reintegration of Donbass since 2014? Or did he use
the separatists as a bugbear to help strengthen Ukrainian national identity?

Libertarianism - the ideology of the oligarchy
Against the background of the failures of the Russian army, the Russian economy
is holding up surprisingly. True, according to the head of the Central Bank,
Elvira Nabiullina, the real shock is starting right now. From recent personal
discoveries, tea and dishwashing detergent have run out at home. It turned out
that the prices of these goods more than doubled.

If earlier Russian oligarchs strictly did not have a public political position,
now the situation is changing. Last week, Oleg Tinkov, one of the largest Russian
bankers, made an emotional anti-war post on Instagram. In addition to demanding
an end to the war, he spoke in general about the Russian Federation. "The
generals, waking up with a hangover, realized that they had a shit-army. And how
will the army be good if everything else in the country is shit and mired in
nepotism, servility and servility?"

It's hard to disagree with this.

Another oligarch, the "aluminum king" Oleg Deripaska, who had previously made
anti-war statements, came out with a policy article in which he called the
current system of the Russian Federation "state capitalism", and according to his
version, the only way to avoid mass unemployment is to carry out a global
reduction of bureaucracy and law enforcement agencies.

Also a cute idea.

But what do the oligarchs offer from the positive program? Maximum freedom for
business, entrepreneurs are allegedly those who create jobs, give people bread.
The state is already making concessions - for example, moratoriums are being
introduced on compliance with various technical regulations. This is a
particularly interesting story: it turns out that earlier these regulations did
not ensure the environmental friendliness and safety of goods, machines and
construction sites, but served to feed officials?

 From the point of view of anarchists, the oligarchs in the end will be no better
than officials and security officials. Their main goal is personal enrichment, it
is for this purpose that they give people jobs.

The same Deripaska - google, where does he get the money from? He captured
Deripaska's factories on the trunks of bandits from the Podolsk and Izmailovo
organized crime groups. Then Deripaska removed the bandits from his business.
Details can be found in numerous publications about the trials in Europe, which
took place on the claims of the criminal authority "Misha-Kryshi" against Deripaska.

Probably, Deripaska kept all these plants under his control because he is a
brilliant manager? At least not quite. For example, Deripaska provided leisure
for the former deputy head of Putin's administration, Sergei Prikhodko, Foreign
Minister Sergei Lavrov, and his family.

As anarchists, we suggest recalling successful examples of industrial communes
and communities, workers' self-management in factories, social mutual assistance
and cooperation. This is a real alternative to what Deripaska calls state capitalism.
