Dear friends,

The Indian Ocean island of Madagascar is home to the world’s entire population of lemurs - made famous by the character King Julian in the hit animated movie Madagascar.

King Julian’s "kin", Indri Lemurs, are in the worst kind of troubleThey are critically endangered and in such peril that they could become extinct almost without warning. Some scientists say there could be just 1,000 left.

Indri Lemurs are striking creatures with huge eyes, rich fur and a love of music - they sing together, often striking up a song with members of their family, either in duets or choruses.

It would be a terrible tragedy if these unique creatures were to die out.

We have a plan to help ensure this does not happen! Please, will you help?

Please help by making a donation now!

Indri Lemurs are so endangered that the survival of even a single breeding pair could be critical.   L'Homme et l'Environnement, a French organization, is fighting to save them. It has just managed to rescue a breeding couple from a forest that was completely destroyed by illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming.

Now, these precious primates must be protected in their new home, a forest so far untouched by greedy commercial loggers.

Please help by making a donation now!

We promised to ask our supporters to help. The most immediate need is for lemur guardians - local people paid to monitor and protect the lemurs.

The government gives L'Homme et l'Environnement no help whatsoever, and without payment, the local community would have no incentive to protect the couple - it would be far easier for them to chop the forest down and make some quick money. Illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming have already wiped out 80 percent of the lemurs’ habitat.

To fully protect these vitally important animals, L'Homme et l'Environnement needs 10 guards monitoring the lemurs 24 hours a day. If we can raise $10,000 (£8,000), we can equip the guards with radios and tracking devices and sustain their life-protecting work for one year.

If we can protect this breeding pair, more lemurs can be introduced to the forest and create a new Garden of Eden for the species.

Please help by making a donation now!

There is no time to lose. Please, be as generous as you can.

Saving animals and the planet,

Campaigner

P.S:lemurs are the world’s oldest primates - they have survived for 70 million years, but man’s greed is close to obliterating them. There is still time to prevent their total demise. Your donation today will enable us to implement our plan of support for the lemur guardians - to equip them with radios and tracking devices and sustain their life-protecting work for one year. It would be tragic if illegal loggers, motivated by money and with no concern for life, were allowed to destroy yet another forest and drive lemurs over the edge of extinction.
