In addition, there is ahigh proportion of temporary positions that do not allow for long-term lifeplanning, and an often high workload with low staff ratios, which causecolleagues to burn out. Many of our jobs (such as in socio-pedagogical familysupport) require maximum flexibility from us in terms of time and sometimescannot be done full-time. A scandal is still the only partial payment of nighton-call duty at the place of action itself (e.g. in homes)! In the day-carecenters we are completely exhausted.Because of the increasingly demanding and concentrated work, we see an urgentneed for significantly longer annual leave, as has been the case for a long timein other pedagogical fields of work (e.g. for teachers) and a reduction inworking hours, which left-wing trade unionists have repeatedly demanded fordecades to 30 hours per week with full wage compensation.NOBODY PAYS THEIR RENT FROM APPLAUSE - EVEN FROM REDUCING REAL WAGE!The inflation rate in Germany is at an all-time high. In this situation, ver.diand the GEW recently signed collective agreements - the result is a disaster forthe employees concerned and a de facto wage reduction. So that this doesn'thappen in social and educational services, we have to organize ourselves.There is no lack of symbolic recognition in social and educational services.However, there is definitely a lack of real recognition in the form of higherwages, reduced working hours, better job codes and time for good work that isgeared towards people's needs. However, these resources are essential for a goodsocial infrastructure, which many people depend on or will depend on. Employeesin social areas are repeatedly referred to as selfless heroes or, most recently,as "systemically relevant" - an attribution from the outside, which seems likesheer mockery for many employees when it becomes apparent at the same time whereas a result of the Corona crisis and militarization should also be saved: As sooften in the social sector!In Freiburg, for example, the local municipal council reduced the preparationtimes in the day-care centers (work intensification) and the wage increases werenot passed on to the independent providers of social work (actual real wagereduction). Pure symbolic recognition here borders on emotional blackmail ratherthan helping employees and clients.In a position paper, the Baden-Württemberg community day calls for the stategovernment to relax the requirements: "Among other things, the upper limit of 28children per group should be allowed to be exceeded by up to two children.Another wish: temporarily undercut the staff ratio of a day care center by up to20 percent. In addition, not only skilled workers should be considered forrepresentation".In other words, if we don't organize ourselves, there will be even more workintensification! There is no talk of more wages, but of a PR campaign towhitewash the situation.Stress at work - union instead of yogaINSTEAD OF CUTTING THE POOR, CUTTING THE RICH!In the pandemic, social work is treated as "systemically relevant". But we preferto be "relevant to system transformation" in order to overcome the livingconditions that are unacceptable for many people and to unload the costs of thecrisis on the rich.The frustration and anger about many conditions in the social area is great,unfortunately the unionization is not yet. Employees in social work and ineducation, which are mainly carried out by women, will not be able to hope forbetter conditions without organizing themselves and will continue to berecognized only symbolically.In the current collective bargaining round and in the coming campaigns, it willbe necessary to make the concept of the company group better known amongcolleagues.
