Hello everyone, It's June and we certainly are seeing interesting times. A
perfect storm is forming in British society, as a result of a number offactors-the Covid pandemic, the war in the Ukraine and Brexit. Twinned with thisis the ongoing deep and serious crisis in the ruling Tory Party, the lack ofappeal of the Labour Party, the oncoming crisis in the British monarchy with theend of Elizabeth's reign looming and the unpopularity of both Charles andWilliam, rising workplace militancy, and continuing concern about theenvironment. Now should be a time to agitate even more determinedly for anarchistcommunism, to develop and strengthen our organisations, the movements in theworkplace and the communities.Public Meeting on Cost of Living Crisis7pm , Tuesday 14th JuneEnough is Enough: Confronting the Cost of Living CrisisHow capitalism and the state got us into this mess and what we can to do to getus outAbout this eventWhilst many of us are suffering badly because of hikes in energy and food billsand dwindling incomes, members of the House of Commons each had their wagesboosted by £2,212-a-year, with their salaries rising to £84,144 from £81,932 onApril 1st. In the Scottish Parliament, MSP salaries rose to £64,470.The Royal Family, too, were well insulated from the energy price hike. For them,the Sovereign Grant has increased by over 55% since 2012. And that is aside fromthe costs of Buckingham Palace renovations.The energy companies are laughing too, with British Gas profits doubling to£948m. The UK's Big Six energy companies between them raked in more than abillion pounds of profit ahead of April's record hike in bills. Despite this,many people will effectively be forced to give the energy companies interest-freeloans, month-by-month building up credit with the bloated energy giants just tohelp their cash flow.The poorest among us were hit the hardest. Those on lowest incomes are morelikely to be on prepayment meters. For the 4.5 million people on prepaymentmeters, the price of energy has now risen by an average £708 - to £2,017 a year,the biggest average jump in prices.This is on top of other bills climbing too, with food prices already up sharplyand warnings to expect staple foods to increase even further in price in themonths ahead. And that's not the end of it. We already know the energy price capwill be up again in October, just in time for the colder months.We can't expect politicians to help us. They're alright on their big salaries.The Labour Party isn't the answer. Sir Keir Starmer, talking about the energybills, said "People don't want a revolution". Are you sure about that, Keir?Because it's not looking like anything else is going to help us. And peoplearen't just afraid. We're angry. The only people who will help us is ourselves.Only direct action will get the goods. We need to organise in our communities andstand together against the energy companies and the greedy, complacentpoliticians.
