As a symbolic date approaches, UCL is taking part in the protest action of the
Kurdish left near the European institutions. ---- On June 25, it will be exactlyten years since Kurdish left activists pitched their tents near the EuropeanParliament, in Strasbourg, to demand the release of Abdullah Öcalan and apolitical solution to the Kurdish question. They and they take turns from week toweek in the rain, the wind, the snow or - as at present - under a blazing sun. Asthis anniversary approaches, they receive reinforcements from internationalistsfrom Belgium, France, Germany and Mexico. ---- The date of June 25 is also that,within a few days, of the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923 which ratified thefoundation of the Turkish nation-state and the negation of the minorities withinit, including the Kurdish people, condemned to undergo real policies of internalcolonization.The nightlights, watchmen, and their supporters, June 2022.For a political solution in KurdistanAgainst this oppression, the Kurdish left seeks to build a project ofemancipation called "democratic confederalism", which is based on solidaritybetween peoples, feminism, ecology and direct democracy. This emancipationproject calls into question the authority of States and seeks to build peace,where they seek to extend their sphere of influence through war and repression.No political solution can exist as long as the opponents of Erdogan - includingthe very symbolic Abdullah Öcalan - suffer terrible repression and languish inprison.Today the tension is greater than ever, with a Turkish attack on northern Iraq.To eliminate the Kurdish movement, Erdogan uses chemical weapons directly againstcivilians.
