Six months after the Bordeaux Congress, in November 1952, the publishing
commission of the Anarchist Federation decided to publish the Manifesto ofLibertarian Communism. Le Libertaire of May 14, 1953 presented this brochure as"containing in a few pages the essentials of our ideas, a clear and completesummary of the doctrine of authentic communism, a booklet of a convenient formatthat can be placed in the hands of thousands of supporters. It was a compilationof texts published in 1951-1952 in Le Libertaire, under the title "EssentialProblems". ---- If the writing was signed Georges Fontenis, it was indeed theexpression of a political current. Fontenis had put his pen to the service of thecollective and, before publication of the Manifesto, a revision of the text wasentrusted to a commission of seven people, to take into account the objectionsand remarks formulated here and there.The pamphlet was published in May 1953. Ten days later, the Paris Congress of theFA unanimously adopted the red and black flag, new federal statutes and a newDeclaration of Principles in line with the Manifesto.
