In the US, the Supreme Court recently overturned a ruling that had previously
officially secured the right to abortion. Now such medical procedures will almostcertainly become illegal in nearly half of US states. Even if that is the goal ofthe justices, this will not end abortions, but only make them more unsafe anddeadly. ---- This decision primarily affects women and all childbearing members(for example non-binary or trans people) of the working class. They can't affordto travel to other states to get abortions. And they cannot afford to pay forlegal protection. It is important to emphasize here that the recent ruling isonly the tip of the iceberg, because abortion options have also been increasinglylimited in the years leading up to the recent decision.Nevertheless, the ruling is another milestone in the global reactionary shift tothat the right wing has been working on in the US for decades. It is a totalattack on the right to bodily autonomy. Following the logic of patriarchy andcapitalism, the state wants to bring social reproduction completely under itscontrol. This sentence thus shows once again that a society in which we can livefreely is only possible if we overcome the state, capitalism and patriarchyaltogether. Only without them will we be able to build a society with true bodilyautonomy.All over the US, people are taking to the streets en masse against the ruling.They know what is at stake and many have also seen in these days that a defenseof the rights they have fought for in the past is only possible on the streets,as a feminist movement.The institutions of the state cannot be relied upon, so resistance and practicalself-organized help against the bans is needed. It will be important to build upsuch networks in the coming months and at the same time to keep up the pressureon the state and anti-abortion activists. Militant actions such as those alreadycarried out in recent weeks under the name "Jane's Revenge" are also needed nowmore than ever.We stand in solidarity with the feminist resistance in the USA. There can be nomore backing down from patriarchy and the shift to the right. It is time to fightback.For the right to bodily autonomy for all people! For the right to safe and freeabortions!
