For us anarchists, July 19, 1936 marks a pivotal moment in the history of our
movement and in the struggle of the working class for its social liberation. ----On this day, workers in Catalonia and other parts of Spain responded to GeneralFranco's reactionary coup and took up arms. They were driven by the desire todefeat fascism and free themselves from the chains of state, capital and thechurch. ---- In the months that followed, it was possible to collectivize largeparts of industry and agriculture in Catalonia and the neighboring regions.Worker self-government was a living reality in many places. Theanarcho-syndicalist mass trade union CNT played a central role in the successfulorganization of the social revolution. But despite many successes, the revolution could not last. It was betrayed byStalinism and finally defeated by the fascists. The result was a decade-longperiod of suppression of our movement.Nevertheless, the Spanish Revolution clearly shows: A different, free world ispossible if we unite and fight for our interests. We therefore commemorate todayall the courageous workers and comrades who fought for the revolution. Your fightwill never be forgotten!https://www.dieplattform.org/2022/07/18/86-jahrestag-der-spanischen-revolution_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
