hunger strike since 23 /05/2022 ---- The anarchist Yiannis Michailidis has been
incarcerated in Greek prisons since 2013 and as of December 29, 2021 he meets all
the formal conditions for his parole. However, the judges of the Council of
Misdemeanors of Amfissa rejected his application. More specifically, on
02/17/2022 they issued their decision, according to which G. Michaelidis "does
not meet the essential conditions as there is a risk of committing new crimes".
This is, of course, a crude and arbitrary pretext used to cover up the brutal
state-judicial method used against him. A method that has as a consequence the
preventive and indefinite extension of his detention. In fact, the state and
civil justice claim in this case to decide at will which prisoner will be
released and who will not, even if he has completed the required time of his
imprisonment, based not on any legal criteria but on criteria of political
opinions. Of course, in this particular case he is a political prisoner, and not
some cop, not some rapist or fascist, not some representative of the political
and economic elite. Thus, by using such legal loopholes, the judicial mafia
manages to prolong the detention of a political prisoner for an indefinite period
of time. The above, of course, is in no way unprecedented nor does it surprise
the people who struggle and resist. And this, precisely because they demonstrate
once again the vicious and vindictive face of the judicial system, which in close
collaboration with the state and capital attempts to suppress and neutralize the
oppressed and rebels of this world.

G. Michaelidis on 23/05/2022 decided to start a hunger strike with the aim of his
release from prison. So he decided to resort to the last means of assertion left
to an imprisoned fighter against state and capitalist brutality. As he notes:
"this choice, with the deep motivation of the longed-for freedom, I intend to
support it with the same consistency that I have supported my choices up to now
and for which I am being avenged. It is my deep wish that this hunger strike
becomes another trigger for the rekindling of the overall struggle against
capital and the states.[...]I do not ask for anyone's interest as a victim of
state repression, but as a socially and politically active subject who considers
the condition of my captivity as part of the state and capital's attack on those
who consciously stand against them."

The repressive methods against militants are an integral part of the broader
repressive campaign of the state which is ongoing and targets every expression of
social and class resistance from below, from the dozens of invasions and
evacuations of squatters throughout Greece, the police occupation of Exarchia and
the a total repressive operation to alter and deprive them of their competitive
physiognomy, the attack on the social character of the university asylum and the
attempt to finally abolish it by imposing the university police, up to the police
operations against strikes and the beating of many mobilizations that were
institutionally legalized with the passing of the bill to curtail demonstrations.
All the tactics and attacks against the fighters/women, the anarchist and
anti-authoritarian movement and more broadly the social and class resistances
have one thing in common: the fear of the authorities against the stature of the
insurgent dignity that the oppressed plebeians of the lifeless world of
exploitation can and do raise more and more. and oppression.

We stand in solidarity with the just struggle of the hunger striker Yannis
Michaelidis for his release. To erect barriers of social and class solidarity
against state repression, to defend political prisoners and activists against
state-judicial methods.
