Hello,
My name is Pepe and I'm one of the coordinators of the Casa Frida Shelter for LGBT+ migrants here in Tapachula, a city in southern Mexico right next to the border with Guatemala.
Thanks to generous donations by All Out members, we are finally open and able to provide food and shelter for LGBT+ migrants escaping discrimination and hate.
Just months ago, this was only a dream. But today, thanks to the support of the All Out community, our dream came true!
Here we are on the day of the big opening. Andrés and Alfonso, from the All Out team, joined us for the lovely celebration. Click here to see more of this memorable day.
Thanks to the help of All Out donors, we will be able to host over 150 people every year. Our shelter will provide every incomer with a bed to sleep, food, legal and migration counseling, and psychological support. But most importantly, this will be a safe place for LGBT+ people.
Because migrating is no easy ride: Every day, I see more and more people coming from countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, looking for a better future, after facing violence not only from the political crisis in each of these countries, but also from being LGBT+.
Here, in Casa Frida Tapachula, Sebastian (left) and me (right) will welcome and aid every LGBT+ person in need of our service.
Once again, thanks to the All Out community that made this possible. I hope you can join us for the next big battle for LGBT+ rights in Mexico and the world.
And, I'll tell you something 🙊 We have already started to receive the first applications from migrants to come here.
Thanks a lot for your support,
Pepe(he/him)Coordinator Casa Frida LGBT+ ShelterTapachula, Mexico
