Three years have passed since that May 13, 2019, in which the Operation Arca
arrests took place. That morning, 2 anarchist comrades were arrested andtransferred to the headquarters of the Information Brigade of the National Policeand later to the National High Court, after searches were carried out in theirhomes and in the La Emboscada Anarchist Space. After going to court they werereleased, but the investigation was still open: the police had to analyze thecontent of their mobile phones, computers, books, notebooks, notebooks and otherseized objects. ---- At that time we did not know what they were accused of; Wedidn't even know the name of the police operation, since the cause was keptsecret. The information services of the National Police limited themselves todetaining them under the generic accusation of "terrorism" and "sabotage",without giving further explanations. A judge from the High Court tried to blindlytake a statement from them (which they refused), without reporting on the factsinvestigated, or what evidence existed, or anything.A few months later, the secrecy of the summary was revealed and it became knownthat the anti-terrorist operation was called "Ark" and they were accused ofcommitting sabotage of ATMs, burning of private security vehicles, placement ofexplosive devices in bank branches, destruction of real estate, etc. On thewebsite of the Burning Arks campaign (carried out by a support group for the twoinvestigated) you can see the more than 40 actions claimed by anarchists on theInternet in the last 3 years in Madrid and indicate which ones were beinginvestigated within the Operation Arca and which ones are not, so that thecontext that encompasses them and their motivations can be understood. The imputation of terrorism was justified on the basis that there is an ideologybehind the actions. Graffiti, sabotage and small fires would be considered merevandalism and damage if they were an apolitical "hooliganism", but they take onan extremely serious aspect when there is a political intention behind it. Theyare the most serious acts of violence regulated in the Penal Code. Meanwhile, capitalism condemns millions of human beings to poverty and precariousness withits inequalities and miseries and the States provoke wars with impunity. It isthese contradictions that the Burning Arks campaign made visible.Fortunately, at the end of June, the Quemando Arcas website made it public thatthe judicial investigation against the 2 compañeras had been shelved. Theconclusion of the judge of the National High Court is that, once theinvestigation was concluded (which, we remember, lasted more than 3 years), thepolice had no proof that the 2 investigated had had any participation in thesabotage that was blamed on them . "Operation Arca is an anti-terrorist policeoperation with a clear objective, to repress anarchism in Madrid again," explainsa statement in Quemando Arcas. "This time it focused on 2 colleagues who werearrested and released pending trial with precautionary measures, accused ofcarrying out different actions against banks, real estate, security companies, state forces, etc."Some time ago we have known that after three long years of uncertainty the casehas been filed. As in other antiterrorist operations against anarchism in theSpanish state, a police story has been generated that is difficult to sustain atthe judicial level but whose objective is to repress and demobilize. We think that everything is part of the strategy of instilling fear in thosepeople who do not shut up, or bow their heads, in those who respond with rage totheir violence. These three years have been filled with many different emotions and actions. Withdifferent feelings for the people who have experienced the process in the firstperson and those who have been accompanying it. However, if something hascharacterized it, it is that we have come to this day and we can say that we arenot afraid, that the fight continues, that what we believe in and the friendshipthat unites us will inevitably lead us to anarchy."Operation Arca was the 7th of its kind since 2014, having previously gone throughOperations Facebook, Columna, Pandora, Pandora 2, Ice and Piñata. In these 6previous legal cases, there were always a series of common patterns: anarchistswere arrested and investigated for being anarchists, for using securecommunications (such as encrypted emails), for holding assemblies and forpublishing communiqués in which they stated that they wanted to end with anoppressive system. Of the five operations, only one (Columna) ended withconvictions for someone (the Chilean anarchists Francisco Solar and MónicaCaballero, who were expelled from the EU after spending 3 years in prison).https://alasbarricadas.org/noticias/node/49381_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
