Both SF and fantasy have fed the imaginations of generations of teenagers and
young (and not so young) adults for decades. The projection into distant futures, strange worlds seemed (and really was) for many an experience of distancingoneself from a daily life and a near future from which they and they wish to fleethe violence momentarily. The same is true of dystopias or uchronias, whichdespite their darkness offered points of support for revolt or dream. But thisliterature - apart from the fact that a large part of the production is, let'sface it, of poor quality and only reinforces virile, nationalist, warlike clichés- has long remained Western, white, heteronormative literature. It was only very recently, despite a few rare precursor texts published in the1970s[1], that this literature of the imagination was emancipated from thistriple guardianship[2]. This transition, in both directions, did not go smoothly(see article on the Hugo Prize), but today it is pleasurable to see other norms,or a-normalities, imposed within the sci-fi/fantasy.Recently, imaginary literatures have seen the development of publications oftexts offering a less Western-centric vision - of which Afrofuturism isundoubtedly the most popular form at present -, more open, inclusive andtherefore more emancipatory in the sense that they offer possibilities, possibleidentifications that are much less circumscribed. To explore these universesfurther, we can refer to special issue n° 8 of the journal Socialter, "Theawakening of the imaginations", April 2020, 196 pages, 19 euros. reactionaries ofall kinds are not happy... and that's cool!David (UCL Chambery)To validate[1]We can obviously cite Ursula Le Guin, Samuel R.
