the local press has devoted extensive pages to Via Giordano Bruno and the Gugliadistrict. As is right, a lot of space was given to the death of Denny Magina andthe voices of the people who were closest to him. But, as often happens whensomething happens in working-class neighborhoods, light is shed only for a fewdays on the problems that the inhabitants experience, often treating difficultsituations in a sensationalist way with little respect for the people who livethem. ---- After all, the electoral campaign has begun and many parties arelooking for issues to ride out hoping to garner support in the elections. Lastnight, August 25, it was the League's turn. A Lega banquet had been announcedfrom 9 pm to midnight in Via Giordano Bruno, to launch their electoral campaign.Those who live in those streets and those who knew Denny, however, did not wantto know about the umpteenth exploitation for electoral purposes, especially ifcarried out by a party that sows hatred in the social disaster it has helped tocreate according to the government in recent years. When the Lega Nord supportersarrived at 8:30 pm, they found a neighborhood dinner organized by a group ofinhabitants, with children playing, and a banner with a clear message "Out of theelection campaign from this tragedy, out of the League from the Spire." We werepresent together with other comrades and companions who had helped organize thedinner, to give solidarity to those who are struggling to react to what happenedand start rebuilding a solidarity social fabric in the neighborhood.Initially faced with the clear request of the inhabitants not to campaign on adead young man, the representatives of the League had assured that they wouldgive up their initiative. But the leaguers continued to stay there, takingpictures, giving interviews, with big smiles, approaching the dinner participantsto pose. After a while of this little theater, the inhabitants asked them toleave. The Northern League responded to the inhabitants with insults andprovocative statements such as "we had booked this square", "who are you, it isyou who must go away".Many other people have left the house, others were facing, and despite therequests to leave, the Northern League have maintained a provocative attitude,probably hoping to create disorder and be able to victimize for low electoralpurposes. But the many people who were on the street, of all ages, but above allvery young girls and boys of the neighborhood, knew very well who they were infront of. Politicians who show up in those neighborhoods only when a tragedyoccurs, to shoot videos on degradation and then return to parliament, to approvenew cuts to services and income for the working classes.After three hours, at 11:30 pm they left, after having collected insults evenfrom the windows, and having shown that they have no respect for those who livein popular neighborhoods, even in the face of situations like this. Last night wesaw a lively neighborhood, not the one reported in the newspapers. A neighborhoodin which the inhabitants take to the streets to dine together to resume livingthe green spaces, a neighborhood that rejects exploitation and provocations,where people leave their homes and discuss common problems. The situation is verydifficult but it was an important signal. The inhabitants of the Spire have givena lesson to those who think that the fascist right may have some social orpopular vocation, exposing the contempt that the Northern League have for thosewho live in these neighborhoods. The inhabitants have shown all those who thinkthey can speculate on what has happened in recent days that it is not possible tocampaign on tragedies.
