In July 2022, Amstel Quartet and Una Cintina traveled to Ireland for two performances of Maxim Shalygin’s new work for organ & saxophone quartet, ‘Songlessness’. The group had two concerts, in Galway and Dublin, and in both cases the performances were very enthusiastically received by the (sometimes-conservative) organ audiences. Each time Amstel performs ‘Songlessness’, it is a slightly different experience due to the differences in acoustics and, particularly, organ capabilities. However, like all of Shalygin’s music, it is always an intense trip! While in Ireland, we also had a chance to try lots of delicious Irish beers and enjoy an unusually long stretch of sun and warm Irish weather. It was wonderful to travel again as a group, which of course we haven’t been able to do as much the last few years due to Covid. |
