On October 9, 2019, three years ago today, an armed fascist tried to break into a
synagogue in Halle. He failed at the heavy wooden door of the building, whichprobably saved the lives of several dozen Jews. ---- The assassin then turnedaway from the synagogue and ran through the streets and to a kebab shop. There heshot two people, Jana L. and Kevin S. ---- The perpetrator acted out ofanti-Semitic, racist and anti-feminist motives. He had networked and radicalizedhimself in fascist forums and spaces on the Internet. He saw his attack in a rowwith other right-wing terrorist attacks - Utøya, Christchurch were his rolemodels. ---- The right-wing terror of Halle proves three things: ---- 1. Fascistterror remains a deadly reality and an imminent threat, especially for Jews,black people and people of color.2. This terror is no longer a spatially limited phenomenon. Fascists networkworldwide. Spaces have emerged on the Internet in which rights incite each otherto violence.3. The state has no real answers to this terror. There was no protection for thesynagogue despite it being the holiest Jewish holiday. After the first emergencycall, the police sent a patrol car. The perpetrator was caught and convicted. Butthe threat posed by fascist terror remains. Because this state will never be ableto get to the roots of right-wing terror.In view of these conditions, commemorating Jana and Kevin means continuing tofight against right-wing terror and fascism with determination. Let's build ananti-fascist movement - here and everywhere. If right-wing terror isinternationally networked, so must our fight against it.
