The meeting in Brussels culminated with an international call for solidarity
between peoples and convergence between social movements to establish strategiesagainst the governments and their neoliberal policies ---- The GeneralConfederation of Labor (CGT) has been one of the more than 150 organizations andgroups participating in the March to Brussels in the last week, an action thathas aimed to demand guarantees from the European Parliament so that thefundamental rights of migrants and refugees are respected. Likewise, CGT has alsosupported that this initiative calls for the administrative regularization ofpeople who live and work in Europe.In Brussels, a meeting was held with representatives of political formationsbelonging to the migration committee of the European Parliament. At the sametime, a hundred people participating in the march have approached the Vottem(Wallonia) Alien Internment Center (CIE), and have protested against thesituation of these people, showing support for those who have been working everyday for 25 years for its closure. In this sense, it should be remembered that ofall the migrants and/or refugees who pass through it, approximately one third areexpelled. CGT has been fighting in the Spanish State for many years theconstruction and maintenance of these places, understanding that they are prisonsfor human beings who have not committed any crime.Another of the realities that they wanted to make visible in this action is thework that thousands of migrants in Europe do in terrible working conditions andwithout rights of any kind. In this sense, the anarcho-syndicalist organizationhighlights the situation in which so many migrant farmworkers survive in Spain,which makes them susceptible to abuse of all kinds, and where women bear the brunt.The voices of migrants and refugees during the march have called for an end topaternalism and the construction of solidarity networks that lead to alliances,since migration is a phenomenon as old as humanity, and there will be no armiesor borders that can stop those who have the worst time in territories where thereis political and economic instability, wars, etc.CGT has also wanted to emphasize the dynamics of those who work in the SpanishState in defense of migrants and/or refugees. Due to its geographical position,Spain receives every year many human beings who risk their lives on the differentmigratory routes of the Southern Border.
